TCM is presenting another stellar line-up of classic films today, to follow up yesterdays winners. At 8:45 AM, EST, 'The Petrified Forest' with Bette Davis; at 10:15, 'Key Largo' with Bogart; at 12:15 PM, 'Strangers on a Train', with Walker and Granger; at 2:15, the excellent 'The Third Man' with Welles and Cotten; at 4:00 PM, 'The Stranger', with E.G. Robinson and Welles; and at 6:00 PM, the absolutely fantastic 'Casablanca' with Bogart and Bergman. TCM has to slow down with all these fine films running back to back because I'm not getting anything done. Another day for classic film buffs. Enjoy. -- Al

I see from the website that the "spotlight" is "March Malice", movies with great villains: http://www.tcm.com/this-month/article/1295776|0/TCM-Spotlight-March-Malice-3-20-3-25.html

TCM always has themes of some kind to its programming. To celebrate the Academy Awards, there's "31 Days of Oscar", programming featuring Oscar-winning movies or Oscar nominees, in the various categories. Or they feature an actor or actress on his or her birthday, or also, as a tribute when someone has passed away.

TCM is great, and what's really great is that there are no commercials. I remember when AMC first started, they had no commercials, either, but they eventually cracked. First, it was an intermission to show commercials, and then it was just like any other network. It reminded me of a joke Letterman once made (back when he was funny) about some movie, "When I saw this in the theater, I thought to myself, 'Boy, I can't wait to see this with commercial interruptions!' "

But TCM just shows the movies. The other content is great, too, perfect for the movie fan. The next best thing is on-demand viewing, either online or watching a DVD, but either way, you just can't beat seeing a movie complete and uncut.

Prost!

IMO, TCM is far and away the best channel on cable. Heck, how can you beat 'The Third Man', "Casablanca', "A Touch of Evil', and the like, all within a 24 hour window? And, as said, commercial free. -- Al

Those are some good ones. Oddly enough I have never made it through Casablanca. I know it is considered one of the best movies ever but it never really did it for me. I did enjoy "Touch of Evil." Orson Welles is great in that one (even though Charlton Heston playing a Mexican is a bit of a stretch).

I remember when AMC had no commercials. Now it's so bad I NEVER watch them anymore. Last time I did watch there were more commercials than movie time. Chris

I only watch "Better Call Saul!"

Yeah, their change in programming reminded me of how radio stations changed the classic rock format, after it was first rolled out, back in the mid- to late Eighties. At first, it was really great to hear songs from the Sixties and Seventies. But it's a finite set of content, and I think stations lost ratings after the first six months to a year. So you started to hear a subtle change, as they started adding new songs from classic artists. "Because it doesn't have to be old, to be a classic!" was the new bumper. Well, yes, it does. I don't want to hear Pete Townshend ballads, I wanna hear classic Who. I started listening to grunge at that point.

Understand completely. I only watch The Walking Dead on AMC and even that's a task because of the commercials every 5 minutes. :rolleyes2: -- Al

I can't watch anything on AMC without a DVR because of the endless commercials and promos. I give them credit though for a lot of good original programming. I don't know if the ad revenue is what makes that possible but it is something they do that TCM doesn't.
