I had fun putting this one together. I understand that much of the standard fare in Egypt can be quite gassy if you're not use to it.

Oh I am quite familiar with that expression. It's the same thing as Tut's Tummy. Both have the same results they just have different scenery for it.

If you do a cruise on the Nile, it's pretty common to see small towers, often on rooftops of the mud bricks houses among the jumble of satellite dishes with dozens of small openings in them, these are for people keeping pigeons, though what the birds find to peck away at amongst the street rubbish is enough to put you off trying one.
On occasion you also see older people eating using only their hands, foods that westerners would require a spoon for at the very least.
And finally, tp isn't a thing out there outside of tourist destinations, a tap / faucet with a short length of hose attached being the norm.
So yes you can see how people especially tourists fall ill with a case of the trots !
