Ok, so on speculation of the story of U-64 and 124 I bought the cap. Looking at it and inspecting it closely, I can't tell for sure if its real or an "aged" repro. The name of the maker is on a plastic diamond shape, for example. I could really use some help here.

Here are the photos:

I think it might be authentic.
It is junior officer cap.

There must be a forum on German gear you could find that could provide some help.

I've been doing searches and came across a site which sells these types of "relics". Man, they go fo a lot!

He has a number of detailed images of similar caps and I am 99% convinced that this is the real deal.

Thanks for the info.

Someone would have to have gone to great lengths to make a knock off that well done for the price you paid. I think it looks real. But again, I believe in Santa Claus.

Well, I did the research, inspected all the materials, checked with some sources and the verdict is FAKE!

Just a case of "if it's too good to be true then it probably is". Thankfully, the dealer is standing behind the deal and will refund my entire payment.

What was it that led to that conclusion?

I'm no expert on uniforms but the wear looked a bit contrived to me and some of the inner material was very new looking. I don't know what Gid paid for it but it would make an interesting discussion piece under say $100 even if it is fake. You guys try and make one cheaper ;)

If you guys think $100 is expensive for a fake, just remember how much we pay for polystone

Well, the price was a bit higher than $100 ;)...

The wear was strange and some of the materials looked way to new but it was the vinyl visor band that decided it. It was hard to see until I began to kind of pull stuff apart.

The story was so compelling that I figured I would buy it as long as the dealer stood by its authenticty - which he is doing. Just on the chance that it was real and had the history.

Ah-well. On to next new exciting thing.
