Hi Guys,

As many of you already know, ‘FULL METAL JACKET’, the Stanley Kubrick movie about the Battle of Hue during the TET Offensive of 1968 is my favourite ‘VIETNAM’ film...

A little while back I decided to begin work on yet another diorama based on this great flic.

As the centerpiece of the dio I wanted to build my version of the main gate of the Marine base at Da Nang as featured in the film.

Well, I’m still working on the project but this is a little ‘work-in-progress’ look-see at the main gate so far... I’ll keep you posted as it develops.

All the best to all fellow ‘VIETNAM’ enthusiasts!
Andy

Andy,

Looks awesome! Will you be making all of us a Da Nang gate too?

Thanks,
Phil

Andy mate,
Awesome Gateway cobber. Just what I need for my new Large USMC Dio which involves an attack on that Base. Got the idea from "Full Metal Jacket". Can I expect it in the mail soon. ^&grin^&grin^&grin

Cheers Howard

That is the Main Gate to 1st Mar Div HQ.
I never saw it in person.
The Main Gate to my camp was two Sandbagged Bunkers
and Concertina Wire.

As was mine,,,wire and wood frame across the road,,,first out was the morning mine sweepers ,,the usual dug in mines down the block ,like the one blew the front end off the ambulance taking the patients to the 93d evak hospital,,a friend with a "delicate" injury,,jumped out of the back,,,did his imitation of a shuffle while holding his injured parts,,all the way back to the gate,,,the tale still makes me wince,,now that would be a diorama,,,

Your stories are valuable History.

Andy,

Is this gate façade something being planned for general release in the future.

BTW, nicely done.

Carlos
