Guys as some of you know I am about to launch a raid into American Civil War territory and start my own modest collection with the aim over time of creating dio's. My good friend Bob said he wanted to help me get started with some items I can use in future dio's. If you look at the photo below, Bob is giving me every single item in that Picture!{eek3}. I cannot believe it, his generosity is astounding. As well as Cannons, foot soldiers,mounted figures he is even giving me the four trees at the back of this shot. He has refused to take a single penny for these and just wants them to go to a good home, well they will find a good home with me and you will see these various figures in my dio's in the future. As you all know I'm rarely lost for words, but on this occasion all I can say is a huge thank you Bob, you are a gentleman.

That's a great gesture from his Rebness. Look forward to seeing what you're going to do with them Rob, that's a heck of a kick start in to this era.

This hobby has a lot of generous people wrapped up within it. I've experienced a good few similar gestures and gifts from forum members, past and present.

Wow{eek3}! I will echo what Wraith said; many true gentlemen in this hobby, and a big {bravo}} to Bobby Reb!

What a great start to your foray Rob and a very kind gesture on Bob's behalf. We have a great group of members here and I too have been on the receiving end of some wonderful gifts.

The way I started this hobby, when I was very little, was some old vendor at a toy train show giving me a handful of small (25mm) painted metal Indians. I have received the odd gift here an there, and I am grateful for all the help.

The title of this thread says it best. And Reb couldn't have been generous to a nicer bloke than our friend Rob.:smile2:

Thank you Louis, that's very kind of you indeed my friend. And thanks to all of you guys for your comments.

What I am so pleased about with Bobs very generous gift is that it will be the foundation block of my collection , I can begin to build around it for several different scenes. For instance among Bobs figures are several Rebs I can use for my round Top assault and also Union troops for the defence of same. It's these that will be the figures I start to build around.

Cheers guys

Rob

Hi Rob,

Congratulations on the start of your ACW collection.

That is a very kind gesture on UKReb's part to help a fellow collector get a flying start to the ACW.

I salute UKReb:salute::

Cheers, Raymond.:)

Your lucky man cobber to have a good mate like that. Thats a great way to start off collecting ACW. My hat goes off to young UK Reb for a great gesture.

Howard, I count myself lucky in that since I've joined this forum I have made very good friends all over the world, I am very fortunate to know so many nice people.

Great to have friends.

Yes it is- especially of your caliber!! :)

I have been the recipient of some extraordinary acts of kindness from members on this forum as well, especially during the period of time (4 months) I spent rebuilding my torched home. I would love to announce them by name but believe they would be somewhat embarrassed so I will just simply state- one FANTASTIC moderator, two EXTRAORDINARY gentlemen from New York- one is quite a cook:p, and a high speed, low drag Texan who's books helped me pass the time.

You are going to have your hands full Rob- I gotta believe those "Rebs" could be rather cantankerous if they are not properly displayed- tread carefully- the pressure is on!! {sm4}{sm4}

Yes indeed Chris, these need to be displayed in as near to the manner in which they are used to as possible, so will be taking time and care to display them with as much realism as I can muster. Its quite a challenge^&cool

Hope you enjoy your new figures. It was a very nice gesture from Bob who is certainly a Class Act!
