I may be cast out as a heretic here, but me I prefer Upstairs Downstairs to Downton Abbey. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy Downton but its a bit ' lightweight' isn't it.Its kind of a guilty pleasure watching it, you know its a bit rubbish but you still watch! I thought it was ok until the episode in which they jammed every WW1 cliche you can imagine into one hour. Shell shock, white feathers, the cooks relative being executed for cowardice, it was all there in sixty short mins^&grin.

Upstairs Downstairs however is well acted and smacks of the class the BBC often bring to their dramas , its a bit darker and a tad more serious than its opponent as WW2 looms.

I like both actually Rob, Larkrise to Candleford is another one – just easy watching for an hour with a glass of port and brain in neutral. It’s the women’s corsets that get my attention really!......{eek3} :wink2: ^&grin

Yeah, used to enjoy ' Larkers' ^&grin Tough life in the country in those days mate, one day a letter may go astray the next you're told by all your friends you drink to much..........that all sounds familiar^&grin^&grin

I should point out its not the original, the remake!^&grin Would be too sad watching repeats of Gordon Jackson pretending to be dour whilst fancying the cook Mrs Miggins or whatever her name was!^&grin

Gordon Jackson pops up in strange places. Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machine and The Long Ships as a greedy cowardly Viking.

Both ladies of the house watch Downton Abby regularly. I like good old Maggie Smith!

Rob..

I did not know there was a remake. Its all a waste of my fee as a licence payer
