Hello everyone:

Do you guys think we'll ever see K&C do US troops in North Africa(Kasserine Pass)? I'm not talking about seeing them produced in the next 6 months. Do you think we'll see them in the next five years? Would be nice, I couldnt handle them being out now, its not like I could afford them anyways.

Well Chris, the Tunisian Tiger's gotta open a can of woop@ss on someone, so its my guess that we'll probably see some NA US troops appearing at some point in the future. They could be used for Sicily and the Italian campaign too.
Cheers

Youve got a great point there. I cant even imagine listening to the sound of those rounds landing close by. That would put a good amount of fear into anyone, would lock me up white with fear for sure.

US troops in foxholes with the Desert Tiger coming towards them like in "The Big Red One", sounds like an interesting diorama.

I may be wrong here, but i thought Andy said (after Ron asked him)not that long ago that he wouldn't be doing these.I think one of the reasons was he thought they'd be too similar to the D Day US troops.

I had intended using some of the ETO Americans for a Tunisian diorama - I'm pretty sure DD82 through to DD87 would be suitable - unless anyone would care to correct me..?? Wouldn't they also be suitable for Sicily/Italy..?
Cheers

Andy has been know to change his mind ! ;)

Keep up the pressure boys ! :D

Your are right. The only salient detail is the glider troops as built by K&C have netted helmets with added scrim, which for the US is common only around DDay. From photos most helmets in North Africa were "naked" - no netting, HOWEVER the US GI has often proved quite adaptable and it's quite likely that somebody was camouflaging their helmets.

Gary

Gary, I am glad you have said that, when I get around to a desert dio I wanted to do both ends of Torch.

Still need - oh hail JG ;) - 17pdr AT gun, 6 pdr AT guns, 2 pdr AT guns - in fact anything with a gun! - and a tank of practically any description for the Brits in NA!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an excellent, excellent idea. I'd love to see some US troops specifically for North Africa, Sicily and Italy, along with some Commonwealth troops such as British, Aussies, New Zealanders, Indians and how about some French Goumiers?

The Commonwealth troops fought their rear ends off in North Africa, Sicily and Italy, specifically Monte Cassino and it's high time some troops were done to represent/honor those men.................ok, I'll get off the soap box now, but you boys know I have a soft spot for the contributions made by the Commonweath forces, just look at my dios and my sig...........lol.......

You know Gary, this is exactly the kind of situation I was thinking of when I suggested, oh around 6 months ago, that I thought it would be a great idea if K&C could offer us some simple customisation accessories - such as alternative heads, separate bases, etc. Of course I was shot down in flames by the e-Bay brigade, but for those of us with no interest in selling on items of our collections for the sake of accumulating filthy lucre, I think its still a valid option that would provide a degree of versatility to K&C's figures.

I'd love to see British,Commonwealth and American figures for Cassino, or come to think of it any other part of Italy.I think Warrior has listed them very nicely,i'd buy em!.:)

The only thing to distinguish a NA GI from just about any other theater is the patch. As long as their wearing the M-41 jackets and OG wool uniforms.

How about the scrim on the helmets of the D-Day figures that Gary mentioned.? Does this make them unsuitable for Tunisia.? Or is this a minor detail.?
While I don't particularly care about accuracy to the Nth degree (just like it to be reasonable), I'd like to know one way or the other.
Thanks

Well I think in order to resolve some of these accuracy details we should just have US North Africa troops and a Dragon Wagon. How about a US North Africa Dragon Wagon, this would solve so many toy soldier issues - HA

Aye - that's a good idea. In fact haven't we come full-circle and found ourselves back at the beginning of this thread...??

Heid dude

Yes I think we have come full circle. Yet that would mean that this thread actually makes sense. Normally it spirals out of control into some "political" issue or a hot debate about who shops at Woolworths.

Take Care

1) The photos that I have seen showed "bare" M1 helmets in use with US troops in North Africa. Helmet nets came later. The only operation that seemed to have a large number of helmets with the scrim in the netting were the initial units into France in June 1944 - mostly the airborne divisions. I'm not sure but the units that used this might have picked it up from the British - note that British Paras were still using scrim in their helmet nets at Market-Garden (and later?). By Market-Garden the US paras were using just nets or plain helmets.

2) re: Dragon Wagon - I'd have to check my references at home, but I don't think these were in North Africa. The Ordnance units in NATOUSA used the earlier M20 tank recovery vehicle (M19 truck with Rogers trailer). The M20 was used into Europe by the US and British.
