Dear All
Welcome to our May 2016 releases of our 1/30 scale wooden warbirds, each one a unique piece and strictly limited in number. Every aircraft takes approximately 60 hours to make and is hand carved from Mahogany wood. We try to create models not seen on the open market before and this month in particular brings some very unique offerings.
The Macchi M5 was a single seater biplane flying boat built by Nieuport-Macchi at Varese, this extremely agile aircraft was powered by an Isotta-Fraschini V.6 engine with a top speed of 117 MPH. The Italians had captured a Lohner type flying boat earlier in the war and this formed the basis for the first Macchi designs. Because the aircraft design was a 'pusher' type with the propeller at the rear there was no need for synchronisation of the 2 forward firing Vickers machine guns, this gave the Macchi a 'fighter' like quality which made it more than a match for its Axis opponents. Over 240 were built during the course of WW1 with some seeing service post-war up until the early 1920's. The Macchi was primarily used in the maritime reconnaissance role by the Italian Naval Air Service, however it could also be utilised as a light bomber on targets of opportunity as and when they presented themselves.
The United States also used the M5 during WW1 and it was in one of these aircraft that Ensign Charles Hammann was awarded the US Naval Aviation Service's first Medal of Honour, when he landed his aircraft under fire to rescue a fellow aviator.
WOW075 flown by Ensign Charles Hammann and limited to 12 worldwide in number, comes with GW064A British Tommy with football as a free figure (picture attached) which will be posted out separately when it comes into stock.
WOW076 flown by Friedrich Welker in Austro Hungarian colours and limited to 12 worldwide in number, comes with GW060C Sentry figure free as pictured in the promotion photos. The Austrians captured this aircraft after the over eager Italian pilot (Daniele Minciotti) flying it, ran out of fuel over enemy territory whilst chasing 2 enemy aircraft! Welker was given command of this aircraft but after flying several missions he crashed this aircraft in Trieste harbour sustaining fatal wounds, the aircraft was of course written off.
An Italian version of this beautiful looking aircraft will follow but alas we do not have one on offer today.
Both versions are priced at $499 plus P&P and can be paid for upfront or spread over 3 months.
Some 18 months ago we released a Hannover which quickly sold out, we have therefore decided to release another variant for those of you who missed out on this fine looking model. The Hannover CL.111 was a 2 seat aircraft utilised by the German Airforce mainly in the ground attack role, it had a very unusual rear tail configuration that allowed the rear gunner a greater arc of fire than other 2 seaters of the time.
WOW077 comes in a very striking pale blue colour scheme similar to our first model, but this time with the added features of an all metal rear gunners machine gun and small bombs fitted on a rack to either side of the fuselage. Comes with free figure of GW062A German sentry and is limited to 15 in number worldwide. This model is priced at $499 which like all our aircraft can be paid upfront of spread over 3 months.
WOW078 Our first Spitfire is the MK9 variant and one of the most highly regarded versions of this beautiful looking aircraft from WW2. Spitfires with pin up nose art are quite hard to come by, but after some searching we found one flown by American pilot Lt Colonel Gustav Lundquist. 'Hello Tolly' was one of the first Spitfires to fly the Atlantic via Iceland in 1944. It was fitted with Mustang underwing fuel tanks for the flight and had all unnecessary weight removed for this epic journey. Whilst flying the Atlantic route 'Hello Tolly' made a forced landing in Greenland and it was here that the famous nose art was added by a mechanic with too much time on his hands! All in all a very unique looking aircraft model with full interior and one that surely deserves pride of place in any Spitfire collectors display cabinet. Limited to 15 in number worldwide and priced at $550 plus P&P, the model comes free with an RAF sentry (no picture attached) which although not in stock will be posted out as soon as it does arrive here at Gunn HQ.
That's all for this month folks as the C 47 Skytrain has not yet arrived in stock, however we will be sending out pictures later this month of 2 very unique and very large custom models we have made for customers. June should see the release of a very nice looking Japanese WW2 fighter for all you Pacific fans plus at least 2 all new Luftwaffe aircraft. I have been told some lozenge pattern WW1 German aircraft are also due in but I suspect these will now be available in July.
Please feel free to email the team with any queries or reservations for the above models.
Best wishes

And this new figure will go with it.
