Are American collectors feeling any less stressed with stocks up? I've noted a degree of anguish in many posts since I joined the forum five years ago, much of it related to personal finaneces. I'm really just wondering if seeing a little bit more showing up in savings from month to month has folks feeling better about purchases that are regarded as something of an extravagance by many.:)

The equity markets have been moving up for a number of years and over 20% this year alone.
Interest rates remain relatively low and economic data is pretty good.
Unfortunately, however, there is a lot of uncertainty going forward. This includes policies, government instability and divisiveness and possible foreign conflicts both military and trade.
So I think many people are still quite conservative in their outlook and spending habits.

I'm actually quite nervous and am looking toward going in a more conservative direction. The 2008 market crash really hurt and caused much anxiety. I wouldn't want to go through another one of those, not this close to retirement.

Seems like our U.S. economy is heading in the right direction. Another 6 months should give a more definitive answer !

Not going to pretend to be an economist, but I can tell you that as a consultant who represents business who are expanding...................it is a slow year. A lot of consolidation, automation ,reduction of work force and a lot of money on the sidelines. (Not spending). I have always said the stock market is its own animal, but I see the winds of change coming, eventually the reality/correction will hit the market, I look for a large correction in the next 12 months. The cycles always occur, you just don't know when.
