Since this seems so helpful, I have made this thread 'sticky' so it will always appear at the top of the list in Uniform History. If you would like to list good links, please do it here. If you would like to get into a discussion about the websites, please start another thread.

I thought this could remain as a resource thread.

Just uniformology, right? Here's a list of sites that I've used. I tried to keep it to sites devoted to uniformology, though many of them have other info that is equally interesting and useful, too:

Dragoner-Regt. 2, the website of an Austrian re-enactor group:

http://www.kavallerie.at/

Lots of info, including uniforms, tracing the regiment from the Seven Years War up to the Great War

----

Hessen-Militär, the website of the Society for Hessian Military and Civilian History:

http://www.xn--hessen-militr-mfb.de/

Lots of info, including uniforms

----

Prussian Military History:

http://www.grosser-generalstab.de/

Most of the images are by Knötel, in the form of the various tobacco card series available in the Thirties. There are also associated pages for the Imperial-and-Royal Army.

----

Seven Years’ War wiki at Kronoskaf.com:

http://www.kronoskaf.com/syw/index.php?title=Main_Page

Lots of good info; it was here that I learned more definitive details about the Brunswick regimental flags, for example, putting to rest the uncertainty on the subject perpetuated in Schirmer’s book and carried forward by Pengel & Hurt. The site’s content is constantly growing.

----

Nec Pluribus Impar, on the French army from about 1700 up through the Seven Years’ War, and also the other combattants:

http://vial.jean.free.fr/new_npi/

Some very good articles and illustrations on a wide number of regiments, including unit histories, flags, smaller uniform details. However, the editor has scaled back updating the site. It used to be bi-monthly, but now, it’s updated less frequently. Still, the archives are very useful.

----

Militärhistorisches Museum der Bundeswehr:

http://www.militaerhistorisches-museum.bundeswehr.de/portal/a/mhm

The online home of the Bundeswehr’s Museum of Military History

----

Bayerisches Armeemuseum:

http://www.armeemuseum.de/

The online home of the great Bavarian Army Museum

----

Historischer Bilderdienst, (“Historical Image Service”):

http://www.historischer-bilderdienst.de/index.php

This site offers reproductions of many of the various printed collections of uniform history that were in print in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

----

Fredericus-Rex:

http://www.fredericus-rex.de/

Conrad Schulte’s online shop (I helped translate one of the pages :D ) Conny carries CD collections of printed uniformology, and also has some images available free.

----

HZ-Forum:

http://www.hz-forum.eu/forum/index.php

Since I listed his shop, I’ll list Conny’s forum as well. Right now, we’re rebuilding after taking a major hit in a hacker attack just before Christmas, so much of the content is gone, and is slowly being re-posted. But it’s worth having a look and joining, even if you don’t speak German.

----

The Anne S. K. Brown Military Collection, Brown University:

http://dl.lib.brown.edu/libweb/collections/askb/index.php

Another site worth browsing, and if you can take a trip up to the school, well worth the trip.

----

New York Public Library’s digital gallery:

http://digitalgallery.nypl.org/nypldigital/

A lot of material is up online at the NYPL’s site; that’s just a starting point link

And of course, some of the other modeling/miniature/painting sites can be useful, because people are always posting research that they've done"

PlanetFigure: http://www.planetfigure.com/
TimeLines Historica: http://www.timelinesforum.com/

Hope you find those as useful as I do.

Prost!
