As some of you might know I'm a writer. Comic books, mostly.

My latest work-in-progress concerns U.S. Marines in Afghanistan fighting, well, zombies. It's a long story.

I'm writing a scene where the Marines call in an airstrike. My question is - which aircraft would they be able to call in? I originally wrote in an A-10, but I haven't been able to find anything on the internet about the Corps using A-10s. I don't know if the USMC would rely on Army or Air Force assets.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. And if you are a veteran, thanks for your service, I'm trying not to screw up the military part of this too much.

Thanks,

Mark Sable

Well if you don't know you don't need to know mister....
just about anything and everything could be on call....depends on who/what is on CAP and if the commander on the ground had specifically asked for something....pretty broad stroke I know.

Hey I have a box full of my old Sgt Rock, Unknown Soldier, and "GI combat Comics in the garage- what are they worth?

An A-10 could very well be called in, Like HSN said, usually it is what is in the neighborhood. Could possibly be NATO allies. It used to be that the Forward Air Controller would have been briefed prior to the patrol of what air assets were scheduled to be available.

roger that ....lets not forget spooky....the ultimate air support....I don't know if those are there....although there once was a time we painted giant numbers on the roofs of "our" positions in the balkans...

How about the Osprey for your vertical envelopment ?
The folding wings could add another element to the story.

Don't the USMC also use their own Harriers as close air support? -- Al

They have Harriers, Hornets and Cobras for sure, but in these days of inter-branch and international operations, the Marines have access to much more. Although, a Cobra tearing through a bunch of zombies would be awesome!
