I ran across a series of plates depicting what the US Navy wore while in China between 1920 and 1941. This is the era being depicted in the new K&C USN series which is meant to be used in conjunction with the Streets of Old Hong Kong. As you will see some of these uniforms appear in the forthcoming releases and hopefully for those of us collecting the series more of them will show up in future releases.
The illustrations are by American illustrator Gary Joseph Cieradkowski who lives and works in California. He posted these on the Sand Pebbles website.
Here is some information about the artist, his photo and an example of other military subjects he has done:
Gary Joseph Cieradkowski wanted to be a graphic artist since the day in 1977 when he pulled a book of Toulouse-Lautrec posters off the shelf of a Ben Franklin 5 and dime store in Passaic, New Jersey. From grammar through high school his fine art gained state-wide recognition, culminating in a position at the prestigious New Jersey Governor's School of the Arts in 1987. A painting scholarship brought him to the Maryland Institute, College of Art, graduating with a degree in Graphic Art. His strong foundation in fine arts makes him a versatile illustrator as well as designer. In over 15 years as a professional designer he has worked on everything from print and publication design, environmental signage, package design, branding and logotypes. Clients worked with include the Baltimore Orioles, Folgers Coffee, Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company, Chiquita Corporation, Coors, Sunbeam, the San Francisco Giants, Thermos, Kwikset Locks and Bosch Power Tools. High profile projects include the environmental and print graphics for Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the music department of Barnes and Nobles, the Folgers coffee can and the new Chiquita brandmark. Gary's theater posters have won numerous awards and his portrait drawings are in private and public collections. He also dedicates time and work to non-profit groups such as the Negro League Baseball Players Association, the Kidney Foundation and small theater troupes. Interests outside of work include pre-war motorcycles, military history and he is currently writing a book on the history of the Baltimore Elite Giants Negro League baseball team.
