USPS Insurance...How do they get away with this??? (1 Viewer)

Is USPS with insurance the best and most economical method ?

I believe so, but then I really don't send that much. I heard that large commercial
shippers [Amazon] contract with FedEx and UPS for lower rates. Also, USPS contracts with
UPS and FedEx to carry mail on their planes, and it doesn't get sorted until it reaches
a local distribution point. Ontrac does also for areas they service. Same for FedEx Home.

Overseas USPS certainly is the most economical. FedEx routinely collects customs fees
and a brokerage fee. I've never had a custom fee with USPS parcels.

This is for the couple of posters who are apparently sticking up for USPS. I posted this story a while back but it bears repeating. I also will point out I am not exagerating this is exactly what happened.
I ordered some plastic figures which were origional figures converted to new poses. Just as the postman was pulling up to the mailbox my wife was walking up from the back yard. She then observed the postman force this box into our mailbox. He then drove off, my wife retrieved the box which was so cramned inside she had to forcebly pull it out. The top of the box was crushed. I opened it up and about 6 plastic figures were heavily damaged from the box being crushed. The next day I responded to my post office with the box and broken figures. I spoke with the post master, described what happened and she told me I could receive no compensation since there was no insurance, even tho my wife witnessed the mailman forceing this box into the mailbox, clearly his fault. I then asked if any disciplinary action could be taken against this postman and she said no that the union would not permit it.
Open for any comments that USPS was right on this.
Funny the postman who did this was not my regular guy. A few days after the incident I spoke with my regular postman in regards to the incident and he said per USPS rules if a package cannot easily slide in and out of the mailbox it should be placed on the front porch.

That is so negligent...it's disgraceful the way your parcel was treated...when you complained about the damage...I bet the first thing your USPS representative said was.................

"Did you buy insurance?"

cause that seems the only way they will stand behind a good delivery...

Mike if the postmaster said it once she said it 10 times. If there was no insurance on this particular package no matter what the cicumstances I would not be paid for the damage.
If you check back I went thru another horror story with USPS when I did have insurance. I eventually got paid but it was after 3 appeals. There initial denials for the claim was there was no damage to the outer box. That,s why I posted any future claims will always have a damaged box regardless who does it!

There was an earlier thread about the USPS. I posted this. My opinion has not changed about them. If anything its getting worse.

"Sadly unless the item was insured you are out of luck. And even than good luck getting your check. Sorry, but that's the way it is with the USPS. You can complain and threaten too call who ever you like. You can fill out forms or do what ever else they tell you to do. They will not lift a finger to help you. They are accountable to KNOW ONE. You have to kill someone to get fired from the PO. Ever see the seen in "Men in Black II" when they show the mutant aliens working in the post office ? It's based on fact. They are the most inept organization on the planet. Notice I said "organization", they can't even be considered a business. What business can loose billions every year and still exist ? Don't even waste your time trying to deal with them. When you talk to a postal employee your voice sounds like the teacher in the Charlie Brown cartoons to them. They are only nodding their heads out of habit when you speak. My advise is to just let it go, that's what I do. You will live longer."

My latest example of their incompetence is this:

My mailman does a daily pick up at my house. When ever he scans one of my neighbors deliveries before he gets to my house 9 times out of 10 he does not reset his scanner. What does this do you ask. When he then scans my packages it shows them as being delivered and not picked up. Labels printed and delivered on the same day. Then my customers get a shipping confirmation email with a tracking number that shows their order as delivered. So I get to spend the night answering their emails as to why they can't find their orders. Humane nature is to check the tracking number when you get it to see when to expect your order. If a customer claims they never received their order USPS checks the tracking number and says well it was delivered. If you try to explain to them the chain of events that caused this issue well good luck. It would be easier to explain the theory of relativity to a 2 year old.

Gary...

I remember your post on being denied because of no exterior box damage...

I think you also said if it happened again...there would be exterior box damage when you made your first visit to the post office...^&grin

metal soldiers in particular...can be easily damaged when a box is handled roughly...

Not to throw another log on this fire because it's burning pretty good on it's own, but here goes;

Mike,
Aside from damage to the items inside the parcel, insurance also covers you, the sender, if the truck catches on fire and all the packages are destroyed, if the truck gets broken into and packages get clipped, if the truck drives off a cliff and the packages all get destroyed, if your carrier slips on a banana peel and lands on your little army guys that some clambrain paid twenty times what you paid for them on Ebay, if the package gets lost in the system or any other number of issues that can come up OTHER than the one you keep referring to, ie, damage to the items due to rough handling.

So, insurance covers more than just one mishap is my point on this........................

George...

yea...all those scenarios pretty much fall under the category of damaged or lost...

I'm worried about Newman from Sienfeld mostly...

he claims he just threw the mail away when it got to be too much...^&grin

George...I can't even think of a bad episode...they were all hilarious...throw Kramer and Costanza in the mix...with Larry Williams writing the dialog...it just couldn't miss...they were all pretty neurotic characters...you just had to laugh at them and their various phobias...
