[FROM THE JOURNAL OF JONATHAN HARKER]
~ As I lay in the castle keep, I reviewed my attempts to evade the attentions of the foul werebeasts and other depraved creatures of the night who haunt this forsaken land; unconciousness overtook me and I fell prey to the most disturbing nightmares ~
~ Ilya Muromets and fellow Bogatyr, Dobrynya Nikitich, check their back trail for enemy Turks while journeying to the rendezvous with Prince Vlad Dracul which will lead to the liberation of Crişana, and establish Transylvanian independence from the "Golden Horde of the Steppes" - at least for a while ~
~ Our two intrepid hero’s are joined by the third member of the gang; Alyosha Popovich. He reckons someone/something is following them – but he’s got the feeling it’s not Turks.
In fact, things are getting downright creepy as the temperature plummets, the sky darkens, and the horses begin to get nervous, very nervous ~
~ Suddenly, there’s a bright light in the sky off to the East ~
~ Aaaaaiiiieeeee......Heathen Turks would’ve been bad enough – but what’s assailing our hero’s are actually three TARTARS......Vampire Tarters!!!
Or, err, Vamp Tarts for short ~
Aaaaaiiiieeeee......
Will the our hero’s escape the clutches of these Evil Harpies?
Will Crişana fall to the Hordes from the Steppes of Central Asia?
Is anyone still awake?
Tune in some other time – same place – same channel – and find out, (maybe).

~ The background picture was scanned from an old book I have kicking around of Scottish landscapes and is actually a view of Glencoe, but I reckon it makes a good stand-in for the Carpathians.
I wanted the photo's to resemble those illustrations I've seen in books originally published in the late 1800's/early 1900's. So I carried out some alterations to the scanned backdrop picture first, and then took the photo's. A bit of experimentation with the exposure and adaptive lighting provided the gloomy look I wanted, then some over-emphasis with the sharpness and contrast controls completed the effect ~
