It would take a rather large building to display them. Heck, you could even put motors on a 35 footer and run about the lakes here in Minnesota.

You'd have to wait for that boat ride - it was 10 below here yesterday morning ...

Maybe an ice breaking ship would be needed to lead the way!

One question I have for Andy and the Napoleonic Collection is shouldn’t there be some Fusilier soldiers for the 3rd Line Regiment. My understanding of French Napoleonic Regiments is that they would have had 1 company of Grenadiers and 1 company of Voltigeurs. The rest of the regiment would have been made up of Fusilier or Center Line companies depending on your definition. Andy has provided us with some great Voltigeurs who are unfortunately going off to the sunset. The Grenadiers are also very impressive. I was wondering if anybody has heard any rumors about some Fusiliers for the 3rd Line Regiment coming out next year? By the way if my understanding of the formation of a Napoleonic French Regiment is wrong please let me know to further my education.

I also say bring on the field hospital set. I was really busy with work when Wellington suggested this idea. I want to take the opportunity to say I think it would be a great idea to have a couple of sets showing what happens to the wounded. Great idea Wellington.

Yes you are correct about the french battalion being 1 company of voltigeurs and 1 of grenadier and about 4 companies of fusiliers. When in column the fusiliers would march up front in column 2 companies side by side with 2 more behind them and then the grenadiers and voltigeurs behind them. The grenadiers on the right and volts on the left. The voltigeurs would come forward to act as skimishers they were the smaller men and better shots and the grenadiers were the tallest men and veterians. this is something none of the toy soldier companies always seem to miss. you always see short grenadiers and tall light troops, no one seems to pick up on this fact. Its the same with the cavalry there was light cavalry (small men small horses) and heavy cavalry (big men big horses).

Thanks for the response and confirmation that my understand of a French battalion was correct. I also appreciate the information on the standard marching formation.

You bring up an excellent point about the height difference between Voltigeurs and Grenadiers. I also understood that Voltigeurs were always shorter then Grenadiers and were the skirmish company of the battalion. I love both by K&C Voltigeurs and Grenadiers but they are the same height.

Question for all Napoleonic collectors out there, has anyone heard if Andy is going to do some Fusiliers to round out the 3rd Regiment? If Andy does happen to read this post I appreciate all the excellent soldiers you have given us. I do think we need some Fusiliers to do a proper display. Let me know if anyone has any information, agrees with me or disagrees.

Unfortunitly i can,t afford to do it but if i had the money i would love to build up a colum of french or british with them all in their proper place in line, square or colum with sappers, port-aigles,sous officers sergants ect. all in place maybe sceic2 can do one and send us some pictures. Thats if andy will make us some more napoleonics that is. For now i,m just happy with what i,ve got and will make my smaller mini skirmishs. Besides i don,t have the room for such a large set-up.
