1. Yes, it's the 16th Panzer Division as per Frank's expert eye in such matters.

Wow! This could have been one of the first vehicles to reach the Volga before the city fight began. The propaganda unit made much of this at the time.

2. Air Recognition Flag - we haven't decided yet if we're going to make it removeable or glue it in place. The one that's on there in the image is only a foil one used as a placeholder. Please see the image below for the actual one used in production (same painting obviously). This image also shows the extra stowage that will ship with the set. I haven't decided yet if we're going to fix all the extras and flag in place or just provide them loose for you all to do with as you choose.

For my taste, the more options the better; this gives more flexibility in displays and facilitates the use and desirability of multiples. In fact, I think that works just as well for the Napoleonic series.:D:D

Hi Matt,
Like your Stug, this is an excellent product and a great offering to the market.
I am hoping that the flag will be a removable option. I think there may be some collectors that will wish to purchase more than one, and a fixed ID flag could be a possible negative feature.
Keep up the good work,

Good point.....

Matt,I think it would be best for the flag to be removeable...but.... the stowage should be "mostly fixed"....too many loose parts would be a nusiance IMO and probably would fall from the vehicle every time it's moved or repositioned.

Why not just glue them where you want them? You could use either a semi permanent or temporary glue or even a modeling putty which would not harm the paint.

Making air recognition flags removable would make sense! In fact, FL or at least another company should make "cloth" air rec. flags!
Thanks

I understand in some countries the swastika on the flag to possibly be an issue for customs ... This might speak for removability ...

The 232 looks fantastic. Does this mean that the Stalingrad range is moving away from the factory battles to cover other phases of the campaign?

Well, i think FL should make troops for the "outskirts "of Stalingrad,, like maybe some German Calvary!! Also, if FL decides to make more axis forces, most of those (Italians, Hungarian, Romanian) were involved in the fights outside of the city! Though i think the italians had a significant force inside the city

Making the flag removeable shouldn't be a problem as it has a very tight fit. The concern is that if it's constantly being moved on and off, the flag could get damaged. So my thinking is to provide it put in place, but not glued in place. It stays by itself without any glue.

As for the extra stowage, parts that are hanging should probably be fixed (helmets and small bag). However, the rolls I was thinking of doing loose so that collector's could glue them in place as they see fit in a configuration of their choosing using none, some, or all of them. This would also faciliate the use of multiples should any collector be brave enough to purchase two of these!

The 232 looks Great IMO and as I can only afford to buy one it makes no difference to me how the Flag is secured just incase matt is keeping score Thanks Gebhard;)

And then, suddenly, a broad silvery ribbon, the Volga. We knew this was the goal. The ultimate goal of the war maybe. And beyond the Volga, to the east, we saw the vast deep forests stretching into the horizon shrouded in mystery. And then this boundless view into the expanse of asia, nothing but forests, forests, steppes, and endlessness. It was an exciting feeling.

Hi Daruss,
If First Legion treat thier Stalingrad release like they do their Nappy line which I'm sure they will you will get your wish. If you haven't noticed FL is not scared to take chances they don't take the safe road. If they did they would not be doing the Russian front they would be making Westfront products like everyone else is doing IMO they are the cutting edge . I'm sure all Nations and combatants will be represented ;) before all is said and done, so get your checkbook ready I know my credit cards are already sweating and ready to go :D

I just watched War of the Century: When Hitler Fought Stalin for the umpteenth time last night and realized as I was watching that this quote is from one of the interviews done for the program. If any of you guys haven't seen this, it's a four part documentary on the war in the east by the BBC and I can't recommend it highly enough. Great stuff.

It is one of my favorite BBC productions. I really like the World at War, however for obvious reasons, Soviet participation was limited. The War of the Century fills that gap.

World at War is definitely a great series as well, but it's not as detailed as War of the Century and glosses over the Soviets a bit as you point out. Another one that I really like is WWII: The Complete History. I really like it for the detailed analysis it does of the run up to the war. It gives a perspective a bit different that what I've seen from other documentaries. Interestingly, a lot of people don't like this documentary because it's just pure narration and raw footage (30 hours of it), but I think it's great.

I also enjoyed D-Day to Berlin by the BBC as well. I'm usually not into docudrama type reenactment stuff, but it was very well done. I particularly like how they cover Monty. I wouldn't have expected the BBC to be so harsh with him... ;) Interestingly enough, Antony Beevor is pretty harsh with him as well in his recent D-Day book.

History writing like history itself is cyclic. In a few years time somebody will reevaluate Monty yet again in another whole new light.

Hi, yes, you are correct, FL does like to take chances! That is what i love about them.. Hopefully someday, FL will give us some German Railroad action (Deutsche Reichsbahn).. It does so well in 1/87 and 1/35 scale, that i think ti could sell good if done properly! And i think FL makes there figures the perfect size that it could go with MARKLIN 1/32 (I guage ) track!
