Does anyone know of a site(s) detailing uniforms / equipment / vehicles etc. for Australian forces in Vietnam?
Any ideas gratefully received.

Cheers
Simon

Simon,

Why don't you send a pm to CS. He is an expert on camo and might know where to point you to.

The Australian War Museum has a huge collection of photos that can be accessed online and I have found it to be better than any other site: http://cas.awm.gov.au/TST2/cst.acct...pe=RIGHT&bvers=5&bplatform=Netscape&bos=Win32

All you have to do is run an Advanced Search under the conflict "Vietnam" and in the search in section you UNcheck all the boxes except photograph. In the Enter Search Terms section you simply type the specific you are after such as: artillery, rifle, tank, truck, or uniform etc.

SAS and other special units used a variety of gear but the the basic uniform used by Aussie conscripts was a long shirt and trousers in Jungle Green with a soft hat. The standard infantry weapon was the L1A1 SLR (Self Loading Rifle) in 7.62 (.308) calibre which packed a decent punch. The standard tank was the Centurion together with M113's personnel carriers, with Landrovers and International trucks being the main people movers. The main artillery piece was the US 105 mm howitzer.

Oz,

That's bang on the mark and just the sort of thing I was looking for.

Many thanks,
Simon

You're welcome Simon. Out of interest I have just searched "camouflage" under "all conflicts" and it resulted in over 1500 photo images - there were some interesting pics among that lot :)
