I've just finished the first series and it was ok. It's not as good as Vikings but that was an exceptional show! It's hard to say what exactly it is missing. Perhaps Kattegut as a location has been done to death? Though other elements of Norway are still fascinating. It's also a surprise that Denmark, the source of most Vikings, especially in relation to England, is NEVER featured? King Cnut is an interesting character but he's not shown here to great effect. His father is better. Also, as mentioned by someone else below, I roll my eyes at Christianity being a reason for so much villainy. I'll probably watch the next series.
