It would be great to be able to make up a dio with British armour and soft skinned vehicles to represent Wittmans greatest day in the West. Most of the vehicles would be of American design, if alittle modified. Half tracks for the infantry, Fireflys and command Shermans.

Andy has at sometime or other produced these items and they would also fit in with the XXX corp sets required to cover the land arm of Market Garden. Unit markings would not necessarily match i know.

Well lunch over hope this stimulates some debate!

thats a great idea.

it would be interesting to see someone produces damaged tanks/wrecked vehicles , both german and Allies, to complement the figures like the Big red one, Normandy Whermacht or Bulge Americans or germans.

K&C made a knocked out Stug III, a broken down Hanomag and an abandoned Kubelwagon with a dead body under a sheet back in around 1999, but they just didn't sell.

Hi KV,

sorry for my ignorance, but what's TSSD?

Hi Louis,

being a newbie in this hobby, i didn't know of the previous knocked down vehicles.

but maybe with the further improvements in recent K&C recent releases in quality, vibrant colours and improved sculpting it will be accepted this time around? i googled the 3 items you mentioned and was not really excited with the quality, and it is quite amazing how much improvements were made in this hobby.

maybe the wreckages should be marketed as a diorama piece, with less details (as it was supposed to be a background for the wonderful K&C figures) and a cheaper price (since it has less details)?

after all, the eastern front was not selling too well then, but nowadays i thought, gauging from Ebay and other sites, they're rather hotcakes.

For those who may not have seen them, here are the three "Battle Relics" pieces sold previously by K & C: SP 08 Knocked Out Stug, SP 09 Abandoned Hanomag (the figure did not come with the set) and SP 10 Ambushed Kubelwagen.

The quality of the early polystone vehicles was no where near todays quality. If you've followed K&C from the inception of polystone in 1997 through today, you will see that Andy consistently pushed the envelope in improving quality, both before and after he had competition. While knocked out and damaged vehicles produced today undoubtedly would look a lot better, I still doubt they would sell well. Just look at the Honour Bound damaged Panther. They had to drastically cut the price recently to sell off their inventory.

Precisely Louis.

That's why i thought the price will be very crucial.

I like HB's damaged panther, esp the winter one.

but i thought HB was rather mistaken when they quote the $190 price.

Especially when it costs the same as other panthers.

Alas when they agree to halve the prices of the damaged panthers, it was about right for me.

With battle damaged sets you have already cut your market at least in half as most collectors don't bother with diorama displays. But I have noticed that diorama style display is gaining ground lately, and I'm getting a HB damaged Winter Panther myself, but mainly for the three mechanics that come with it.

I must admit that when I started this thread I was thinking of the opening of this action more than anything. Battle damage was not the initial idea for a Dio but it's amzing how this has taken off. I have had an Eastern Front idea forming for awhile for a battle damaged panther diorama. I hear Andy likes his products to tell a story and with new production standards i'm sure polystone BD tanks would sell. This forum went crazy when Treefrog secured the HB Panthers so they can't be a complete non starter.

I was initially thinking of the British vehicles lined up in the town main street with Wittman approaching. New british armour battle damaged or not would be welcome. Imagine three XXX Corp Shermans on Hells Highway the front one knocked out the rear one Ko'd and a group of german infantry lining up the shot on the last!

I have the same with trains

Damaged vehicles really are a dilemma. They aren't the greatest stand alone pieces but man do they bring dioramas to life.

I have to admit I really like damaged vehicles. I paid full price for HB's damaged Panther when it was released.

Burned out T34.

In every model magazine the most stunning dioramas are always the ones with damage vehicles in. Thats just my opinion, These models are usually conversions with hours of care and extra expence, not just straight out of the box kits. Has this not crossed over to the toy soldier collector?

If I were you guys, I would look for 1/35 / 1/32 model armor kits and bash them (not literally) into action-damaged vehicles, for my dioramas, the individual collector's skills permitting, of course.

Prost!

I actually found some 1/30 kits and I'm planning on doing that but after my current projects.

Brad I do mix plastic 1/35 damaged vehicles with K&C, gives the opportunity to decide how damage is going to be..

I even put together with a camera angle pretender they are the same size.

Rod.
