Vintage Britains Antiaircraft Gun Set No. 1522 (1 Viewer)

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this looks very good. I've seen other Britains pieces from that time period in that dark olive drab color ad the way the paint lays on the metal looks absolutely legit.

It would be a real undertaking to strip that down and re-do the paint to that standard.

Hi Gideon,
Very much appreciate your considered judgment. Have reviewed all the Vectis and Old Toy Soldier Auction examples I can find, personally have quite a few early post WWII guns and vehicles. Concern was lack of sheen and missing silver or gold muzzle tip, but have seen righteous examples without the painted tip. Would appear from the number of bidders (6 at last count) that there is an active interest, but as you well know e-Bay has become a feeding frenzy for sharks in recent years. Will continue to watch. Thank you once again.
Yours aye,
Arnhem Jim

You should have seen the bid activity on a Britians custom coronation figure I posted about a week ago. It was basically one of a kind and it went for one of a kind 1950's Britains money too.

The new owner will very much enjoy that acquisition.

Hi Jim,

I think its a pretty nice example as well. I'd say well worth the current price but I also agreee with your *****sment of ebay being a feeding frenzy place at times. Best of luck if you do give it a go.

I sincerely appreciate and respect the responses I have received. It very well may be that I’m becoming even more discerning (read suspicious and cynical), in my ‘maturing’ years, but I have been burned many times getting to those years. As you may know I maintain four e-Bay guides on a combination of toy soldiers and British militaria, as well as a blog page (restrike/fake regimental cap badges, renamed campaign medals, and fake paratroop battle dress trousers for openers). Here are my concerns. Simultaneously the same seller is auctioning off a MIB W. Britains Set No. 2174 Battalion Antitank Gun with Towing Vehicle (produced between 1958-63). Although I do not have the same identical set, I do have mint boxed originals of both components, which I purchased when they were first issued. The color of both is a semi-gloss dark green, not a matte finish as is being offered on e-Bay. As you probably know Set No. 1522 4.5in Antiaircraft Gun was produced between 1937-41. That’s a span of 21 years, a World War, and a reformulation of Britains paint. Oddly, based upon my repeated side-by side comparison, the paint finish on the antiaircraft gun in chroma, shade, and matte finish appears to my eye identical to the other set. It may just be a rationalization, based on my fixed income, but it may be a weighed forensics driven analysis. It might also be 10 years with Naval Investigative Service. In any event I’m going to pass on this auction, and bask in the satisfaction of a recently acquired (not on e-Bay) boxed near-mint W. Britains Set No. 1850 Netherlands Infantry Steel Helmets At the Slope, circa 1939.

Well,

I have some older Britains figures up for auction right now - some very interesting and lovely stuff. They aren't mint, they've seen some action in their time but they've made it through and are looking for gentler homes.
