Visiting Yesteryear (1 Viewer)

Gentle Friends,

These figures are colorful, arn't they? I greatly enjoy viewing them.

Now we come to the third interesting feature of these figures. Remember, I told you I would share this information when I reached the last set of pictures of these figures? Let me set the stage by once again quoting from Richard O'Brien's book:

"As a rule, none [of these figures]are marked in such a way as to be easily identifiable. Many exported ones had paper stickers under the bases, which fell off long ago."

A UK collector friend of mine has collected these figures for many years and, according to him, he has only seen a single figure with the identifying sticker in place. I am fortunate that this identifying sticker is still in place on all of the figures of this set. You will see the sticker on the underside of the bases in the pictures below.

Again, I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of my vintage figures. As I said earlier, these are very special to me.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat as stated in our pms You are a gentleman ans a scholar!

You have earned it. Yep.

Brad,

One would think that at your age, you would have the wisdom to realize that running with the bulls is never a good idea!:D

Definitely not a good idea Louis but something I'd like to do. I'll probably just settle one day for watching from a safe point of view.

Gentle Friends,

My journey through Yesteryear is coming to a close with this posting. As I stated some time ago, I saved the three sets of vintage figures that are the most precious to me until the very end of my journey. I have shown you my Frenchal Bullfighters with the identifing stickers attached to the underside of the bases and I have shown you my Minikin set of Hannibal's Elephant Invasion. Now, it is time to show you the third and final of my three most precious vintage sets.

Like a good Fourth of July fireworks display, I planned a great finale. I took numerous pictures of the set I am about to show you. Unfortunately, as most of you know, I am not a professional photographer. I examined picture after picture with the intent of providing you with an impressive final showing. Much to my dismay, my photos were of a lesser quality than I had hoped. Therefore, since I cannot overwhelm you with quality photos, I shall overwhelm you with a great quantity of photos! :D

Many of you know that one of W. Britains most appreciated and sought after sets is the Coronation Set that was issued to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953. Many a Britains collector has dreamed of owning such a set. Well, I wish I could show you the Britains set, but I do not own one! :p

However, many collectors do not realize that Coronation sets were issued by several toy soldier manufacturers. Included among the companies issuing such sets was the Crescent Company. The pictures below provide you a view of this great Crescent set. I am most proud to own it and I hope you enjoy seeing it!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Gentle Friends,

My journey has been a delightful experience and it is my hope that others who are interested in vintage figures will choose to use this thread to enjoy their own personal journey through Yesteryear. I know I will look forward to accompanying a fellow collector on such a journey.

It has been a pleasure sharing my vintage figures with you. Thank you for viewing my figures and thank you for being with me as I took my personal tour through Yesteryear.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Pat,

Once again you manage to pull a woderful set from out of no where! I love the use of cord to attach the horses to the carriage!

Thanks for sharing this with us

All the best

Dave

Pat,

What a wonderful setup! I take it this is all in one of those large double level boxes they used to make back then? Thanks for taking the time to share this and all your other figures from your collection of vintage sets.

Now you have come to the end of this journey how about that "Special Knight" we are still waiting for...:p:D:D

Regards

Jeff

Yo Trooper, as always Dick never cease to amaze me with some of your superb Old Britains sets, is it the full 211 piece or knowing you did you take it a step further. Thanks for showing us this Dick your sets are always a delight to see, and as usual all in top class condition. "AWESOME".
Bernard.

I can't take credit for this one -- it was auctioned off in December of 2008 and went for $2000. It was mssing about 10 pieces. It belongs to some other very lucky person other than myself.

Dick
