Volcano Delays (2 Viewers)

Cancelled again today! What a nightmare. This time the incoming flight had a mechanical problem and landed on an island in the Atlantic! I can't make that stuff up. Have been here almost two weeks now. Tomorrow is a new day.

Good luck tomorrow. Are you there on business or pleasure?

My wife and I are adopting a baby boy. At least three international incidents involved so far including the Polish airplane crash, the return of the adoptive child from the US by some crazy woman in TN, and now the volcano.

You've definitely had an unusual couple of weeks, something that I don't you'll forget anytime soon :)

Best of luck, your good lady and yourself ill have a story to tell the little fella one day.

Home at last! 3:30 am. No words to describe the incompetence of the airlines. That's a longer story though. The last exciting incident involved a guy at the Moscow aiport having an apparent heart attack in the terminal. They were literally doing CPR under our feet. At one point he seemed to revive and tried to get up but the security people pinned him down until they could find a wheelchair to whisk him away to god knows where. Another memorable fellow with a bullhorn outside the Moscow airport repeatedly urging drivers to "keep moving" even though they were tangled in an unending mass of traffic that would have shamed NYC.

Good to see you back Doug. None of us can even imagine what you must have gone through. It's probably a story almost worthy of Kafka.

Doug,

All of its worth it to bring home a baby boy. I hope you enjoy your son as much as I enjoy mine.:)

Thanks much. We still have to go twice more before we actually bring him back. Hopefully those trips are less eventful!

Congratulations on the adoption and good luck on the next steps!
We went through this exciting experience a few years ago too. My wife and I adopted our little girl from Russia back in 2002 (she was 3 1/2 years old). We live in Seattle. We flew from Seattle to Copenhagen, then to Moscow and then to Magadan (Siberia) - 9H flight from Moscow -after waiting 6 hours in Moscow due to the fog to board a old Russian jet (40 years old) to get her. The total flight duration was more than 24H. It was 1F when we arrived at night in Siberia (November) - warm for the locals. Everyone was so nice over there and everything went well. Luckily enough for us we had to go there only once (still not sure why but we could not complain :)). Where is you son located?
She has been with us for now 8 years and she is (like her 2 brothers) the joy of our life!

He is at a baby home just outside Moscow. It takes about 2 hours to get there from Moscow though because the traffic is beyond description. I was reading an article on CNN today about the hundreds of thousands of children in Russia who are orphans. It really is heartbreaking to think about so many children in those places. Can't fathom what it must be like for those who spend their entire childhood in those institutions: http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/04/29/russia.orphanage/index.html?hpt=C1

Congrats to you, your wife and your family...it's a good thing you have done Doug..that video link is a heartbreaker...so sad...:(
