voyevoda Russian figure (1 Viewer)

Got this 60mm figure from my hoard. It represents a voyevoda war leader of the 17th century. The illustration is from an old Montvert publication.

Some basic underpainting. An insipid start and hopefully, it gets better. Some of my figures stay this way.

Found this figure again and realised that this is a pirated casting. Anyway, I didn't like the pose so I've decided to convert it to a mounted figure. Another way to spell this is Voivode which means military leader. Anyway, snip snip and I found a castaway horse body as well with a spare saddle.

I've added a horse head so far.

Amazing that I could relocate this thread. I typed a different spelling of the word voivode….

Almost couldnt relocate this thread. It is the stupid spelling of voyveda or voiveda. This thread spells it as voyeveda.... grrrr.

Decided to move along with it. Built up the long cloak. I selected a Starlux horse for the mount. These are very sturdy and large looking beasts, looking a bit naff. I decided to cut one up to represent a smaller pony.

I dont really enjoy cutting up a Starlux horse as it is made of solid polystyrene which is rather difficult to saw thru. I just do this to practise conversions on other horses besides Historex and Airfix.

Added some putty to the horse and started to sculpt the cloak.

I scoured the underside of the figure to get a good seat on the pony.

I shortened the legs by 8 mm and added barding to the horse. Will have to scour the inside of the fig to ensure a good seat.
