As a lot of you know I,m a retired police officer, was an officer for 40 years. Over 30 with the St Louis PD & 9 with the University of Mo. St Louis. The St Louis PD has a message board and one of the hot topics is the St Louis Rams, per the NFL, will not allow off duty or retired officers to carry a weapon inside the stadium. They used to let you carry, however you had to check in with a police officer working security to verify who you were and then give them your seat location.
My position on this is that we should be allowed, I, even tho retired, must qualify every year. My main opposition to this is I don,t necessarily object to not carrying inside but I definetly want my pistol walking to and from the stadium. Plus I certainly don,t want to leave my firearm in my car and have someone steal it.
I can totally understand not letting anyone with a conceal carry permit but an officer is trained, retrained and trained again in the proper use plus an off duty officer would be more apt to take action if he observed some sort of crime taking place in his presence if he was armned. I,m biased on this and that,s why I,m asking this question.

I don't have a problem with retired police officers who have legal authorization to carry a concealed firearm, carrying them, anywhere. I don't have a problem with currently active but off-duty police officers carrying concealed firearms on them, anywhere, either.

The NFL seems to be coming down more and more on the side of restricting use of firearms.

Prost!

You are absolutely right Gary. You are qualified to carry and are not a civilian. As a fan and a civilian, I want off duty and retired officers carrying at sporting events. I would feel safer.

Same thing in Detroit Gary. Try walking from your car to the stadium in Detroit. You better have a vest, firearm and a armed escort if you aren't within a mile of the stadium. Oh well my HD tv is better to watch the games on anyways and the beverages are free. By the way I'm still working on that jersey. It's turned out to be harder to get then I thought.

where I live...Galveston Island, Texas...off duty policemen are required to carry their firearms...even when out of uniform...

I'm not sure of the policy on retired...

I know a lot of them provide security as a part time job and they definitle carry a side arm...

I like sitting around a lot of plain clothes cops...retired or active...any where...anytime...

we would hire off duty cops as security on the weekends...but would encourage them to dine their through free beverages and discounted meal...

I have no problem sitiing next to any retired or active policeman carrying weapons...

I always hope I sit next to an air Marshall incognito when I fly...^&grin

WOW is it really that bad that a retired policeman have to carry firearms, cant imagine it here people don't like the police carrying firearms at sporting events now.
But nowadays i don't think its a bad thing, the problem here is that if you disturb a sporting event with non-sporting event activities the whole crowd turns into the police force...............^&grin

I'm a firm believer in the Second Amendment, and truly believe that ALL citzens should be armed at ALL times.

I believe retired policemen should be able to conceal and carry, as long as they stay qualified. Civilians should not be able to conceal. If something bad happened and everybody carried, I can see confusion and bystanders getting hurt. Not everybody is cool. Also if you carry, you better be prepared to do the nasty. And those things are made only for the nasty. Not good. Abunai (Japanese for dangerous).

Sounds perfectly reasonable what you said Gary. I for one think all police officers world wide should carry firearms while on duty but in some instances I think it's also ok to carry them off duty so long as the protocols and procedure's are being followed. It's different here in Oz as any firearms are strictly controlled and that includes firearms used by members of the police force. As Wayne said below, if some in the crowd mucks up during a sporting event with non sporting event activities, then generally the rest of the crowd will arm themselves with a six pack and become a police officer for a short while!!!{sm4}

Also police train for things to go wrong, not Joe Blow who is having a beer ripping out a firearm and taking it upon himself to be a policeman, thats stupid.

I don't want to offend you and please do not take it personally, but it is because I'm constantly hearing some statements like yours that I have decided to refrain from traveling down south (I'm canadian) unless I have to do it for business purpose. This is becoming sick. In complete opposition to you, I think that ALL civilians should be disarmed. We're in 2013, there are no indians or other threats on the continent.... except your own people.
This is my opinion and I know it will offend many people but it is shared by a lot of canadians.
