In 1996 King & Country produced a set for the opening of the musical "Les Miserables" in Hong Kong. A promotional set. I know one sold on eBay this past summer and went for less than $200.00. Sadly, as closely as I follow K&C glossy, I missed that one. I would pay $400.00 for the set, if anyone has one for sale

Thanks

Peter.

Can someone send me the link to Les Mis that sold for 200? I would like to know who the lottery winner was.

I did a quick eBay search and there was nothing in the Toy Soldier category. Total auctions using the name Les Miserables was over 4,700 so I’m not about to do that. Maybe it’s easier to grab Louis’ while he’s not looking.

August this year. Actually I think it may have sold for less than $150.00 ($146.00 sticks in my mind). I missed it and in the past 10 years, I've never seen another offered.

Also, not sure how ebay handles completed auctions. It's possible that the bid was at the $150 level & the auction was ended by the seller. I saw it in a completed auctions search about middle of October. I was out of the country for a while and had not been on eBay for about a month (although I was at around when that item was on ebay).

And a quick search on Worthpoint shows that the item was on eBay on August 20th. The item images can be seen on Worthpoint. I am not a subscriber and can not see the closing price. Again, my recollection was that it closed/ended at $150.00 or so.

What a shame it is so difficult to find! I would gladly bid on it!

The eBay results only go back as far as September so we will never know the specifics of this particular auction, unless someone comes forward.

well, looked at worthpoint, here is the description: VERY RARE KING & COUNTRY LES MISERABLES SET. THIS IS A VERY RARE SET I HAVE ESTIMATES A 200 SETS. THE DOWNSIDE IS THE FLAG IS A REPOP AND THE MAN WITH THE RIFLE WITH HIS LEG ON THE BOX NEEDS TO BE GLUED. LET THE PICTURES BE YOUR GUIDE. ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING

Oh well, sorry I missed this one too! Honestly I would put the sales price on the open market north of $1000 for this set, if you find a perfect one, then probably 1500.

I saw the listing as completed on eBay. I never looked at the description. I did view the images. I was just bummed that I missed the listing on eBay. The figures could have been sawed in half and I would have bid on the item had I seen it.

I was offered the set some years ago in trade for the K&C Noon Day Gun, which I turned down. As the Noon Day Gun was part of a range, Streets of Old Hong Kong, I thought it more of interest for my collection at the time than the Les Miserables set. Other than vehicles and planes, there are very few K&C figures that I have never owned. The Les Miserables set is one.

A side question regarding the King & Country Chess set; Do you (anyone can respond) regards this as being a toy soldier collectible?

Peter

I regard it as being a collectible but not a toy soldier. I’d put it in the same class as the battle of Hong Kong painting that Andy did years ago (which, by the way, I have never seen; all I have is a photo in a brochure).

I’m on the other side. They are toy soldiers made by king & country. They just happen to be on a chess board. I think it crosses lines into both categories
