War of 1812 Gun limber (3 Viewers)

Yes it looks like the 6lb gun to me also. Its defiantly for 1812.

Yes, I had a nice chat with John at the show. This is indeed the British artillery train with previous 6lb gun unpainted...and yes, there will be additional artillery figures that can be used to accompany this set. John specifically mentioned horse handlers..which I think is very exciting and not often done. Very impressive offerings from John all around at this show, I thought.

If only the limberand horse handlers are new, this begs the question about the availability of the 6 pdr, crew and horses.

I got this picture of a different view of the new 1812 British artillery limber..

it's a little clearer and shows a little more detail than the one's that were photographed at the show and previously posted......

thought you guys might enjoy a look at it...

Thanks Mike, very useful photo, I am hoping to use this in my Zulu or Sedan setups. Wish John would do some seated Sudan figures to ride on the limber or horses, but I guess not likely given this is all for 1812. My Sudan figures will just have to march along side. Just would like your thoughts on the gold chains, whilst it needs to have chains to make this look as real as possible, I guessing back in the period they would not have been gold colour. What is your take on the colour? Cheers, Robin.

I can guess with almost certainty that at this point they are only gold because they used a brass chain, which is stronger and can hold more detail. I am sure the final will be painted.

All the limber, powder carts and wagons JJ has in the past...have had brass linkage...

this picture (at the bottom) of a wagon sent to me...from Fort Ligonier has the hardware and linkage painted in black...

I like the brass...if the brass is painted black, won't it eventually chip off and show the brass underneath...

I would guess he is going to leave them brass...

whatever he chooses...I will be happy with...

How many different horses do you count?
To me it looks like 4 variations (the front 4 horses being only 2 variations)!

I leave that up to you Niels...I get dizzy looking at them......and I can't clearly see two of the horses on the back side...it's logical that they come in sets of two though...wouldn't you think...

Yep, no question it is an even number!
Initially I was in doubt whether it was 2 or 3 pairs of horses, but after a closer look it seems like 2 pairs!

If you have a close look the two rear horses have differnt harness because they are uesd as breaking horses, hence the strapping around their rear.

The 2 lead horses are only used for pulling, so they don't need that sort of harness.

There are 2 horses with saddles, being the left hand ones, so maybe we will have some riders? Also there could be a couple of gunners to ride on the limber, but it all depends on whether thats been planned for. Lets hope it it :)

When the image of the 6 horse team was shown the front two horses were set up on the wrong sides, because there was a saddled horese on the right, when he should have been on the left.

Lets hope that its sold in sets. The gun is already a separate issue, so we could hope to expect a limber and 2 breakers, and another set with 2 lead horses, and then individual riders. In that way colletcors can build up the gun team they desire.

Here's hoping :)

okay...not to beat a dead horse...:D...

but I'm seeing 4 different horses here...

2 red, 2 purple, 1 green and 1 black...

or 2 sets...

the front two teams (which are a set) are identical...

the back team is a set...

and I don't think the B of M teams will work with this...their linkage goes over the saddle...but I guess it doesn't matter...as they are retired anyway and unavailable anyway...

Wow Mike you go to alot of trouble. I think I will stick to the black horse in my collection, you can have the other colours, but they do not seem natural for a horse to me. Just kidding, keep up the detective work. Cheers, Robin.

Robin...he sent me an email...he's actually going to paint them those colors since there is so much confusion......

Mike,

thanks for the image, that really explains things.

Red horse is a lead mounted horse (note the stirrup) , purple another leader, but the middle horse are on the wong side.

Green and black are correct for brake horses.

Front horse wouldn't have chains on the front of them, but I'm sure that John just has them in case he wants more horses in the team.... a multi purpose set ???

What artillery sets has JJ released so far that would work with Naps? Any limbers?

Two sets of British artillery figures: BCHART1 and BCHART2 (each set comprises two British Foot Artillery crew figures in excellent poses). They have also produced a beautiful British 6 pounder and recently the 24 pounder...now this new limber shown in this thread (gun not inclusive..that is the 6 pounder from the previous release).

Any idea of the drivers for the horse teams?

British regulars or possibly civilians? Would be very happy, but shocked, if civilians.

Planning on hitching a 24-pounder to the limber and placing it on one of the BoM shelves and then spend hours in quite contemplation trying to figure out why Braddock would have tried to haul such a heavy piece of artillery across the Alleghany Mts.

If you are fixed on hitching the limber to JJD's current 24 pounder ... Best you check first with your dealer before you order. I recall reading that this limber set only hitches JJD's 6 pounder. However I cannot recall reading that from where exactly.

Nevertheless .. its a beautiful limber set and will be adding to my NAPs. Even bought a spare 6 pounder already. {sm4}
