It would seem paying 800.00 for the wooden Hurricane may prove to be a waste of money if K and C is now coming with 200.00 models. Who would buy any more expensive Warbirds if you "know" they will come with discounted models sooner or later??? Same with reissues (ie: recent tents, Africa Korp tank) -no extra "value" to older stuff (retired) if reissues are persistent?

No disrespect intended but are you kidding me? One of the reasons I passed on the poly Hurricane (and I've talked to a couple of other Warbird owners and they feel the same way) is that there will be no way that the polystone ones will compare to the wooden ones for the detail and the quality. When you buy a wooden one, you are holding a museum type quality collectible in your hand. Until you've seen and held one, you can't imagine what a superb piece of craftmanship it is. I've had both the polystone planes and the wooden ones and the wooden ones spoiled me; I sold the Me 163 I had. It just wasn't the same.

Disagree wholeheartedly. Reasons, one, limited availability, wooded warbirds are runs of max 15, some as low as 1 or 3. The wooden warbird market is a small one and if you are in that market, you don't care about the price, you are more interested in the type and quality.

As to future values, trust me when I tell you, I can sell my original Chaffee, Landing Craft, Ambulance, Tiger(s), Schwims, 88 Guns and Tents for many many multiples of their original value and their modern counterparts retail price. Collectors collect for a lot of different reasons, accuracy, detail, historical evolution, completeness, etc. The older models have held a nice appreciation (they were lower retail to begin with and they were done in more limited runs in a lot of cases) and I believe will continue to.

Another example is a vintage Britains collector, let's be honest, a lot of what's out there is not in pristine shape, lacks boxes, paint is only 80% , but guess what, its a huge market. I just sold a bunch of single figures I found in my basement that were vintage Britains Farm and Railway, most repaints, missing parts, singles, I got many multiples of what I paid and deemed them worth. New and more detailed is not always better in the eyes of collectors.

I'm with Brad and Tom on this one. If you haven't held the wood warbirds and wood armored vehicles in your hands, you just don't understand how incredible they are. I even have a couple of older wood pieces which were weathered, like a Vietnam Era M113 APC, and the wood desert 8th army Sherman, which fit in with the more realistic weathered stuff made today appearance wise.

Plus, with regard to the older glossy, early matt and polystone pieces, tracing the development of a company, and having representative samples of each stage of its development (or having everything produced if you can both afford and find it) is half the fun of collecting.

The only person that can really decide whether or not money has been wasted on an item is the person that spent it.:)

To often people become concerned when another collector does something they don't agee with......such is life.

Some people collect one series, others a different one, its all just a matter of taste.

Well it is not wasted if you can sell it for the same price or more; which I strongly suspect is the case here. If you want to trade down, simply offer the one you have for sale.;) They really are different products.

I don't think spending your money on something you like is wasting money. If you want it then go for it. Some of the things I spend my money on would probably be viewed by a large number of the population as wasting money :)

Thanks for the thoughts. I guess you have to apprciate them for what they are rather than an expensive prop against which to display upcoming air ground figs. I have ten warbirds and adding. Very much looking forward to Focke-wulf, Messerchmitt and Japanese zero as well as German or Japanese bombers (altho the later would probably be too heavy for poly). Thanks

And yet, to them buying 250 pairs of shoes or 30 purses each of which cost several hundred dollars, and then only using them for one season, isn't a waste, its fashion . . . :p

One season or only one occasion....

I'm happy about these warbird releases. Will alow me to sell my corgi collection.

On the otherhand I wouldn't be that happy if an older tank was released without any updates, upgrades...

I own a Corgi and GMP P51 and when I was in the K&C store in Hong Kong in april I did hold the K&C P51 in my hands. I was impressed but I still think the Corgi and GMP offer more detail; like engine and cockpit detail. Also the K&C lacks surface detail;you can't feel any rivets and panel seams. In a way even the polystone ME 163 Comet offers more detail than the wooden warplanes.
Seems to me that the wooden Warplanes are just elitist toys for the happy few. With the release of the polystone Hurricane K&C is finally catering for the masses!

Wooden Birds(that maybe, has less detailing, But a lot more personal detailing by the one who made it) versus, a plane that was made in a cast (Of maybe a thousand). Any colector, That can afford. lets say $800.00. Are they going for 4 planes or Are they going after a single piece made out of wood. Of a possible production of maybe 5 at the most. My bet is they are going for the wood. However elitist that may sound.
Apples and oranges
