Just finish seeing the episode of where the pirate defeats the knight, the overriding conclusion of this episode was that technology was the reason for victory. Technology could have also caused the pirate to be defeated. The battle scene at the end of the program shows the pirate picking up his pistol, which had been lost on the ground while wrestling with the knight, and shooting the knight point blank in the head. The probability of the flintlock pistol being able to fire after being dropped on the ground is highly unlikely. The powder from the pan and possibly the powder in the barrel would have fallen out. I have experienced running with a loaded pistol and more times than not the powder will fall out of the pan. So in most cases like this one his pistol would have just went "click" and he would have been dead.

i've been shooting blackpowder for a long time.... if the frizzen is down, and its a good fit, very little, if no powder should be lost. as for the ball, it should be a tight fit in the barrel. noway would the ball and powder escape....

Well I have been firing blackpowder pistols and muskets in simulated battle situations and target practice for over 15 years and I can attest to this actually happening with different flintlock pistols. You mention the fit of the pan could be an issue which I can also attest to seeing first hand with pistols and muskets. It is probably bad manufacturing of these reproduced weapons but I imagine this could have been an issue back then as well. Now I did not say that the ball would come out of the pistol but even tightly packed you could still lose some powder from the barrel. You also have to remember in a battle situation steps are shortened or sometimes forgotten in the heat of the moment.

I think the Claymore put it over the top for the Scot! No chance of defending against that with anything in the king's armory.
The next episode is IRA vs. Taliban This will take the show down a notch. Two terrorist groups hiding behind bombs and AKs?! Hand to Hand skills both nonexistent. Uncool!

I'm really curious to see this episode. Even though I think it is very poor taste to select two terrorist organizations. I could care less who wins but since the show usually has people with background in the specific warrior classes they are looking at I wanna see who is actually gonna step up and defend the IRA and Taliban ways of fighting. As soon as these terds leave the set I would put them on the Terror watch list.
