Waterloo Campaign. (3 Viewers)

Superb dioramas Steve, massed troops always look impressive and the napoleonic era lends itself perfectly. Greg.

Invented by Lieut Henry Shrapnel of the Royal Artillery, Spherical Case, a hollow cannon ball filled with lead shot, when the fuse was cut well, it would explode in the air above the massed formations used widely in the Napoleonic wars showering them with these lead balls.

As the French Columns closed with the British Infantry, the favoured defence was the Line usually two ranks deep.
The French came on, beating out their Pas de Charge on their massed drums, which on so many other battlefields had unnerved the Emperors enemies, who would often run before them.
The French veterans who had met the British before though were the ones to become unnerved now as they knew that the British were not prone to running before the drums beating out the tune the British knew as "Old trousers" and would hold their positions and their fire until a very close range closed, when the Volley fire would be devastating when it came.

Thank you and yes quite a few Kronprinz !
A French column was something I was wanting to do for quite a while, unfortunately UK dealers seemed to have ran out of stock for Britains marching fusiliers, which is why I started buying from Kronprinz initially. I find them to be on the whole well sculptured figures at a reasonable price, I do wish they would do better packaging though as I have had to stick the occasional head etc back on. But on the plus side unlike the Britains figures the Kronprinz heads are almost all different faces.

Steve,

Another wonderful diorama! I love how you've grouped various manufacturers into your diorama of the "Thin Red Line" facing off with the "Colonne." Do you keep these permamently on display or do you rotate your figures thorugh the diroamas?

Brendan

Hi Brendan

I'd love to have these on a more permanent display but lack of space means I can only get them down off the shelf into a temporary diorama occasionally so yes some do get rotated around the different scenes.

I always enjoy when you share your collection with us Steve, thanks very much for taking the time to post so all us Napoleonic War enthusiasts can get our fill.

As others have pointed out, nothing like massed Napoleonic battle formations, plus again, great job on the smoke and artillery effects, superbly done, please keep sharing your dioramas, they are a visual treat.

Thank you George.
I have a couple of ideas that I hope to set up and photograph in a few days time, just need a bit of daylight !

As the 16th June drew to a close the Allies finally got the upper hand forcing the French to withdraw.
Here some Brunswickers come into contact with a detachment of the French rear guard by a plundered and burning farmhouse, while French wounded make their escape thanks to Cantinieres loading them onto their cart as do the artillery.

Outstanding diorama scenes Steve and a great collection you have there. A Waterloo battle scene is something that worries me a bit, for it's the series that i have the most figures, and i like to do permanent and safely housed scenes. So it would have to be the biggest undertaking so far and to house it will be difficult. Maybe next year. Anyway i would like to wish you and your family a safe and merry Christmas and new year. All the best Greg.
