I am looking for some opinions on Adkin's Waterloo Companion before deciding to purchase it. I can get it for approx. $30 brand new which seems a good deal. Who owns it already and what do you think? Thanks.

It is one of many that I own...but I find myself returning to it over and over as a well thought out and informative guide. That is a great price too... I picked mine up in Belgium some time ago and paid much more than that.

Cool, thanks for the advice Ken. Between Molloy and yourself, you've convinced me. Thanks again.

Thanks for the additional recommendation, Tim. My mind is made up then...I just need to check out the Amazon price from the sounds of it.

Every so often I fully realize the wonderful thing that a Barnes and Noble membership is. You can work it so mercilessly hard that you get this 60+ dollar book for 12 dollars once you have combined all of your discounts, coupons and gift certificates. What a bargain, and I cannot wait until it arrives at the end of the week.

Guys

I have been following your conversation on the book and ordered one through Amazon. It came yesterday and it is wonderful !

I appreciate the reccomendation - I didn't know that book was out there. Another great find - due to this forum - thanks again.

I bought this book on recommendations from this forum, and can only highly recommend it. I now have a small Waterloo dio based on this book: the French Light Infantry against the Black Watch...::). It is very informative and quite colourful. Great buy!

Dave you,ll love this book its one of the best laid out books on the napoleonic wars I have come across and I,ve got lots of napoleonic books! I wish he would do more books on the napoleonic wars like this!!! Its laid out so you get a real visual of what hes talking about with lots of color photos I posted a reveiw of this book back around the time I first joined the forum but I can,t find it now for some reason but hears a link I found where I posted a couple of photos from the book and gave a short review of it and Wellington also talks about his other book he did on Trafalger, I have never seen this book but if its anything like the waterloo book I,m sure its great!
Wellington has both books and really liked the Trafalger book also.

Heres a link to the older thread!

Yesterday I picked up 'Wellington's Smallest Victory' - The Duke, the Model Maker and the Secret of Waterloo from my local library. It concerns the construction of a huge diorama based on Waterloo that had to be altered to match Wellington's perception of the events rather than those of the majority of people at the battle.

The book goes into a great deal of detail about the battle, more than most Nappy books in fact, and I can recommend it to anyone into this era. My initial interest in the book was based on the mention of 'models' but I found the geographical and historic info very interesting.

Thanks for the sneak preview Tim. I know you've been a big fan of this one. From what you've shown it looks to be loaded with great particulars for endless perusing and that is a very good thing. Thanks again for the recommendation.
