Very nice Duke !

The Pope looks surprised !

Steve

Nice scene.

I don’t recognise the para with map. Is he an older K&C figure?

I don’t believe John Paul II could have been in France at that time.

Thanks everybody for the comments.

The para with the map comes with the old M8 Greyhound set.

That's just a regular priest and not the Pope. (even though the figure is supposed to be the Pope) :) I'm not Catholic so don't know the dress code for priest/Pope but think I've seen lots of regular priests with white robes. Not sure about the white cap though if that has some significant meaning. Maybe someone who is Catholic or knows could chime in as to whether this figure could pass as a regular priest and not the Pope.

Hi Brid,
I agree..I also don’t believe that John Paul II could have been in France at that time...But that’s mainly because our little Pope figure is actually ...Pope Francis! And he wasn’t there either.

BUT I always love ‘Duke’s Diorama Displays’ and how he ‘populates’ them.
All the best,
Andy.

Who cares who or what he is a brilliant scene Duke well layed out.

especially nice Duke...

the Pope and the little girl really make the scene...

Thanks. Yeah, the Pope Francis figure is really nice. I decided to use him here as a French priest but like I said, not sure if he can really pass as one.

Actually two of the Airborne troops in this scene come from the old DD038 M8 Greyhound set. The map figure and the one holding the rifle. I really like both of those figures and the Greyhound set as well. I have several older K&C sets that came with multiple figures and they are still some of my favorites.

Thanks again Andy and K&C for making such a wide variety of figures and vehicles to really keep this hobby intersting.

Duke, as others have noted, a nicely done scene. I’m not Catholic but when I lived overseas I attended Catholic school and although I wasn’t required to, I attended Mass. Moreover, I’ve visited many a church in my time in later years. In all likelihood, a parish priest would have been dressed in a cassock. A Father would have looked something like this:

Very nice , but as a catholic I have to make one remark: Only the pope is allowed to wear white !!!!!!
the picture below shows a priest from the 1940-1950s.
That's also how I remember them when I went to school !!!!!!

K&C could do with making a Priest to go with the Nun and while about it why not a Rabbi for the FOB range and Buddhist Monk for VN range

Steve

Thanks everyone for information on Catholic priests and the Pope and I agree Steve, more figures like you suggest would be very useful in dioramas in different ranges.

I'll just say that I took an artistic liberty with my scene here..... or could it be that the Pope made an unannounced visit to France in June of 1944 that was not recorded in the annals of history. {sm4}

Not to delve too deeply into what was a well executed scene but Pope Pius XII, who served as Pope between 1939-1958, has what some feel is a checkered reputation as not doing enough to help the Jews during WW II. Here is a recent article but a lot has written about him and the Holocaust.

Good article. Interesting as always, jazzeum.
Looks bad for Pius XII.

History has known many bad Popes.
It's not like anybody said they were infallible or anything;)

But as Andy said it's a model of Francis. Maybe Francis took the TARDIS (which the Brig. still thinks is an ordinary police box and the BBC still holds all rights) back to WW2 to set things right morally;)

Priests wore black cassocks in the old days: a Father Brown look. Of higher clergy, the Black Jesuit Pope wears black. Maybe some others.

Anyway good, poignant set photographed beautifully.
The original, clever, and just plain cool pics of Andy's work on this forum would make a great magazine!

Best Wishes, Safe wishes,
Paddy
