Well said the Sydney Herald! (1 Viewer)

Yes, thank you for a great Olympics, an inspiring sporting moment like no other. And thank you for some refreshing opening and closing ceremonies, which brought back music that is part of our lives!
I somehow feel, just from watching the small Brasilian presentation, that Rio will be awesome too, can't wait for the Rio atmosphere...

Heard on the radio this morning that London has been getting praise from the world press for its holding of the games, and thought this very generous from Sydney Herald;

I am always very pleased when I see something like this in the Australian Press. It suggests a certain maturing of our world view that leads us beyond the bolshie, blokey patriotism of a small country to a modern, sophisticated nation more at ease with our place in the world. Our sense of self has always been too reliant on struggle - whether it be war or sport. Good to see balance.

Totally agree Jack, it does show maturity and generosity of spirit.

Bolshie??? One or two?

bolshie, bolshy [ˈbɒlʃɪ] (sometimes capital) Brit informal adj 1. difficult to manage; rebellious
2. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) politically radical or left-wing

n pl -shies

BTW it's nice to see human beings pull something that makes lots of other human beings happy.

Correcting my spelling!! When I do it to people, it is funny. When you do it, it is offensive and demeaning. I don't know why that's the way it is, it just is.

You have made a powerful enemy{sm4}

I see I was mistaken. I thought that you were suggesting that I had mis-spelt bolshie when in fact they were alternate spellings! Some people are proud of their TS, some their wealth, some their looks. I am very proud of my spelling.

War has been averted!

Without wealth and looks to be proud of your only choice was indeed spelling, oh sorry I forgot you do have some TS.....{sm3}{sm4}

So you Bolshies are "difficult to manage" and "Rebellious" not " politically radical or left-wing." :wink2:

And some time back, Oz gave the world that masterful comedy character.....("I'll rip yer bluddy arms orf") Auntie Jack...harbinger of world peace :) and all was right with the world!

There is a left wing element, but they would run to the right at the sound of the first cannon! Generally speaking, we are a politically lethargic lot, which is ironic given that voting is compulsory in Australia, as is (if you read Waynpoo, Northgate Woods and TomNT), saying 'mate', 'barbie' and 'onya' at every opportunity.

I like you that you have Jody Foster or is it Tilda Swinton as a PM.
