West Indian Band (1 Viewer)

Hi Vic - nice Pic! An old Regiment indeed, that one. The Zouave style uniform dates back to 1856 - when it was first adopted by the Regiment at the behest of Queen Victoria. The Regiment had 2 battalions back then - which was reduced by amalgamation to one, in 1920 - and finally disbanded in 1927, for mainly economic reasons. Here's another pic of the uniform, dated 1874.

The uniform survives, however - as the Volunteer Barbados Defence Force Band retained it - and so is still worn by them to this day.

I know that a few TS companies have had a go at them - Britains - and Hiriart are just two that spring to mind. Dorset Soldiers also does a castings version which can be assembled using a vast array of their instruments - to represent them at most times in their history wearing this uniform.

And before you ask - I have looked at them many times - and it's on my list - sometime.:D jb

I make them for my range. In the later Victorian period attached British NCOs wore the zouave uniform but with a foreign service helmet. British officers wore an infantry pattern home service uniform with white facings, they also wore a foreign service helmet.

I do have another illustration of some of the Regiment - with two British Officers, with one wearing FS helmet. It's by Richard Simkin, c.1850. I think the dress version of the uniform of the OR's in the foreground is "Review Order". The others are probably in undress.

I have seen pictures of a TS band with some musicians wearing FS helmets and Zouave style tunics, made by a Canadian member of a TS Society - but can't find it presently. It's a nice subject - and I would like to make one up for myself - one of these days. jb

The picture is much later than 1850, he's wearing a tunic.

I'm Okay with that Martin - that's just how the picture was labelled when I found it on the Internet.

I can't find pictures of your version anywhere on-line. Are they part of your "Heritage" range - and do you have a picture that you could show here, perhaps? jb

They are part of my "Reveille" rang of true 1/32nd scale ceremonial figures. They're on hold at the moment while some stuffs in the works, but I should be able to dig out some pictures.
