A customer contacted us with these figures. He'd like to know the manufacturers, value, and any history on them.

-The Civil War figure has no markings

-The MP and marine figures with K-9's are marked Martin Ritchie copyright 1984

-The Luftwaffe figures maybe from a Spanish maker.

Thanks!

The top one looks like LeMans. The second one I want. The third one no glue. The 4th Looks like New Hope/ Osprey or maybe an Andrea or Alymer.

I think the last two are by Soldat, of Spain. They had a line of Wehrmacht parade and combat figures. The square tin sheet bases are a good indicator. The sculpt is similar to Stadden, only stockier, and close to 60mm. There's a dealer who comes to most of the East coast shows, Bagnold, I think, or Bagnoli, who has a bunch of them in his stuff, some loose, some in their original individual blister packs.

Prost!

And Martin Ritchie is a toy soldier maker here in PA, who specializes in US armed forces from WWII, with some parade figures/sets from the present, too. He doesn't have a website, but still does business through mail order. I have some of his catalogs at home, I can check them for more details.

He used to live not too far from here, but he moved further upstate about 10 years ago, and I remember that I didn't see him at shows after that.

I think there is a pair of his figures on eBay right now, a US Army DI with a German shepherd, I saw it last night.

Prost!

Yes, they are SOLDATS from Spain. I personally do not like them. Poor quality ...you can get them at $6 a piece new:)

A Question about Martin Ritchie

Hi.

I noticed this posting of yours regarding Martin Ritchie Military Miniatures.

I have a boxed set of Blue Berets Set #133 U.S. Air Force Police. There are three figures. I want to sell them on ebay, but I have no idea what to charge.

Would you mind giving me some insight since you have some of his catalogs?

Thanks,

MikeNick

Hi, Mike, I'll be glad to help! Let me check my old catalogs from Martin when I get home tonight, to get a baseline. I can also PM you, if you'd like.

Prost!

Hi Mike,

I don't know who made the ACW Zouave in your first photo and agree that the last photo appear to be Spanish-made figures (probably Soldat). But I am quite familar with Martin Ritchie figures and have about 75 in my collection including large formations of WW II 3rd U.S. Infantry Division and WW I U.S. Infantry. I bought them all on eBay. I have paid from about $3.50 to $10 per figure. Martin Ritchie's figures are easy to identify due to the "jug" ears on his heads. They usually come in sets of five in a light blue box. If you still plan on picking up that other Hiriart Greek Evzones set from me, in the future, I would be willing to credit $10 each for your Air Police. I want to give them to my son, who served in the U.S. Air Force Security Police (formerly called the Air Police) as a reservist for eight years, 1991-99.

To get a new set and add it to our collections is fantastic....to purchase them on a cast stage, do historical research as to the campaigns they took part, what Regiments were on site and then decide what they will look like when finished is even more challenging and exciting......more even so if you:

(1) Fortunate to tap into a situation where casts are still sold.....With all this China mass market stuff, getting nice casts or ask the casts to be set in certain fashion are as rare as a Dodo bird...
(2) If you have the painting skills.....Great! Better still if you have a friend who has the skill.....you keep the friendship flowing, discuss with him on the outcome of the project and see the final master piece!

Attached are samples of my last acquisitions that came in as un assembled castings and my good friend Obee applied his master skills and gave them life!!
