Hi all,

I've been having a dilemma the last couple of weeks with regards to FL and the WW2 line. I would like to collect FL but don't want to start on a new company and have to find out that they won't be making certain themes. I wonder what's in store for the future of WW2 line. With DAK being released I wonder if we will eventually get some 8th Army to go with this line. Will we ever see any Battle of the Bulge German and American soldiers/vehicles? How about Pacific, D-Day or Italians?

What are your thoughts with the future of WW2 items? Maybe some dealers have some insight on the subject. Is FL selling well enough to think that the future is bright for this company we regards with WW2 and an expanding line?

Thanks!

Jose

I'm sorta in the same boat you are. I have been gnawing at the bits to start a FL WWII line. Unfortunately I have no interest in the Eastern front or Africa. I would have to believe that there is a very good possibility that a Western front theme for WWII may make a appearance this year. I have been tempted by several other companies but I have held strong with hopes that maybe, just maybe we will see some American Airborne 101/82 FL style. Life would be so much simpler if we only knew Matts intentions :wink2:

Just to clarify a bit, it was always our intention to cover all theaters of WWII. Hence the name of the range is "World War II: The Arms and Armies of WWII 1939-1945." We just started with Stalingrad as the first major sub range and as those of you who collect our figures know, for better or worse we try to stay focused on a given topic rather than scatter gun various releases. However, it would be pretty fair to say that while Stalingrad is not over by a long shot, that it could be time for something new. So who knows, as one company heads east another company may head west. GERONIMO! ^&grin (i tease!)

Wait till Sammy see's this {eek3}{eek3}
Matt , For whatever reason some guys just are not into the Eastern Front ....I don't understand it but maybe its the lack of Brits and American forces therefore there is no personal connection . But I can say this that from what I see if First Legion do a Westernfront line and maybe add some Waffen SS its money in the bank my friend $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.. Regards Gebhard

Can I ask Matt only (as some collectors will have their own opinion and defence ready for a question and, it won't necessarily be the right answer) why it takes so long for WWII releases to appear??? I understand the reason behind say other ranges when collectors wish to buy multiples and, budget means the slower release means they can accomodate them easier. There is no such restriction on the WWII range and, could this range, not be more speedily done and other areas addressed at the same time. Surely, brits could have been released by now for the African campaign even one or two

WOW .. Sammy must really be on Vacation . Regards Gebhard

What direction is FL heading with WW2

Very simple answer: The Germans are going eastwards and the Russians are moving westwards...

Fair question I guess, though I'm not sure i agree with the overall premise that it does take us so long to release for our WWII range. We've done a new release of WWII pretty continuously about every few months since we launched the range. So other than Napoleonics, it's been the most consistently released range that we have. I think what may lead to your impression is that our WWII releases tend to be about 6-8 figures per release, never really more than that. While Napoleonic or ACW or AWI tend to be 14-22 or so figures per release. If you look at the total number of figures released, the WWII range has 42 German Sets (with many of these being multiple figure sets) and the Russians have 15 Sets. So that's 57 total sets and a total 78 different figures plus the vehicles we've done. And that's just Stalingrad - add in DAK and that's another 13 or so figure and a few vehicles. Not one other range we make other than Naps has this many figures in it. The Naps of course have hundreds...

And yes, we could have released Brits for the Afrika range, but we instead have decided to keep our focus on Stalingrad. One of the reasons we've done our DAK Germans in non-combat poses is because we knew we wouldn't be releasing Brits for awhile. We'll address this of course over time (and not with 1 or 2!).

Best,

Matt

Matt..

Thank you for the reply. Its always sadly, seems for one to almost apologise for comments about FL that do not have all the associated RAH RAH after each sentence. It was a question out of interest and, one which is asked many times but, not openly by many people. I again thank you for the reply

Remember Matt- the 82nd and 101st were in Iraq and Afghanistan as well!! {sm4}{sm4}{sm4}

If FL does the WW2 Western front I will be pressed into some serious decision making. I have all but quit collecting this theater of WW2 due to the fact I feel my collection is pretty much complete. Will be interesting- probably one of those wait and lets see what is issued decisions. Till then, gimme Romans!! :)

Oh how exciting it was to read "GERONIMOS:)" I mean Matts comments on the possiblity of something new?? Gebs your so right, I really am on vacation now!!!! seriously though, just reading some of the comments on forum members who are on the fence about WWII, that a Western Front or a line for the allies..Brits/Aussies/Canadians/U.S. would bring in a bigger collector base for my favorite line, I would like to state this...I was never interested that much in the Eastern Front/Stalingrad, but after starting small with First Legions Stalingrad line I absolutley love it, and no matter what line First Legion goes forward with for WWII I will continue to collect all the Eastern Front releases, but also looking forward to that day to seeing a news letter with hopefully a announcement that the Western Front has been opened!!!!...Sammy

Here's a paratroopers song written by LT. Colonel Bryon paige of the 11th airborne division during WWII

Down from Heaven comes Eleven
and there's Hell to pay below
shout "GERONIMO" GERONIMO"

Hit the silk and check your canopy
and take a look around
the air is full of troopers
set for battle on the ground

Till we join the stick of ANGLES
killed on Leyte and Luzon
shout "GERONIMO "GERONIMO"

It's a gory road to glory
but we're ready here we go
shout "GERONIMO" "GERONIMO

So don't know if this little tease Matt mentioned has anything to do with the Geronimo shout or paras but sure would be nice if it was!!...Sammy

My girlfriend say the samething to me Rob lol

^&grin

Thats two of us so far then, I'm guessing there's more Neil^&grin. And to be fair I do read other stuff, the other day I looked at the Argos catalogue!^&grin:wink2:

I'm assuming that Matt was referring to Paras. As K & C haven't made paras for awhile and TG did well with theirs, if FL is going to make paras, I think FL should do rather well with them. There are many collectors who want to add paras to their collection.
