What do you think guys..... (1 Viewer)

Could be cringe-worthy. You might laugh, but I think Kevin Costner would have a good chance at making a decent version. Costner makes good westerns, regardless of some of his other choices like his aquaman film or when he went postal. Don't know about Cruise. Would depend heavily on his supporting cast. Going to be near impossible to match the 1960 version cast, a dream team, if there ever was one. -- Al

Actually Al I agree. Just the other week I saw ' Open range' and really enjoyed it, terrific shootout section at the end. But I also agree Mag 7 was indeed a dream team and would be near on impossible to beat. The remake of True Grit was very enjoyable, but better than the original, not in my view. Some things maybe should be left alone.

I'm assuming the Cruiser wont be shaving his head for this remake but then one must ask is he taking the Chris or the Vin part?

Agree with Al.......Costner could well play the main role whose gunman days are closing fast and I agree with you Open Range was a brilliant albeit somewhat unsung western. I watch it regularly and always find something new that I had missed before especially in the dialogue between Costner and Duvall.

This M7 remake perhaps smacks a bit like the announcement a few years ago that Peckinpah's Wild Bunch (a near perfect western imo) was ready to re-shoot with a whole host of stars being signed up for the main parts. Then another clarion call that it was being updated to revolve around the modern Mexican drug cartels in Mexico City. Then a long long silence....until it was quietly shelved never to be seen on screen

There's an old adage in Hollywood that says "Only a fool makes a remake of a remake". M7 was a version of The Seven Samurai.

Maybe someone should remind the Cruiser of that old statement.

Open Range is a great movie, but then again almost anything with Robert Duvall is going be good stuff. Remaking Mag 7 is yet more proof, as if one needs any more, that Hollywood is plum out of original ideas.

Remake of Mag 7 - Heresy! {eek3}

Remake of Mag 7 starring Cruise - Oh Puke! :tongue:

Open Range was great. Robert Duvall as a trail boss named Bluebonnet is inspired film making. Robert Duvall has made some superb westerns. You gotta love Bluebonnet. -- Al
