Other hobbies?

I ride bike for my sport, since I got too old and slow to play softball anymore. I also like to go hiking, though I don't get to do that nearly as often as I'd like.

I belong to a little community theater, where I work now primarily in stage lighting, but I've done just about everything but direct a show. I was on the board of directors for 11 years, but retired from that a couple of years ago.

Another hobby is beer. I like drinking it, reading about it, brewing it, and I have a collection of over 200 steins, mugs and glasses.

And I got back into scale modeling a couple of years ago. There's overlap with this hobby, though, so I don't know if you'd count it as "other".

Prost!

My main hobby is horses; I like to train, ride, compete and just plain interact with them. I am not sure if I collect them or they collect me but I do know they are extremely intelligent and in many ways considerably more evolved than our species. I do ski and bike (mostly for exercise) and enjoy and collect movies and Malamutes.

Re: What else you collect, beside toy soldiers

What is malamutes?
You all have very interesting hobis.Did you know that in my country we are very proud of the horses name LIPICANCI.They are all white, and they are very inteligent. When they are born they are black but later they get completely white. It is call Lipicanci because of the slovenian town Lipica and they are world famous. But they are not so much for ride but more for training, which is sad i think because i will love to see them run free in the prarie with the wind in their hair. But people go watch them at the shows and they now all kind of tricks, like dancing and stuff, but they are not mean for circus or anything like that. They are very expensives too and one of them are gift to a UK Queen Elisabeth, but she can not take it to the Uk,she is just a proud owner, but the horse stay in Slovenia(which is funny and i do not know why they do not give the horse so she can take it home:rolleyes:)She was also enjoying watching them in the arena when they have a perform to her and some big shoots:D
And we also have some beer factorys in my country too but if you have 200 in your collection i am sure you drink better than this in my country haha, even the turist say that it is good(maybe they are just polite :D:D:D)
But with beer go a Beer Festival which is also in my country and people go to this festivals to have fun, there is a lot of music,shows,parade,concerts,...for a few days, and omne of the largest is Oktoberfest in Germany(Munchen)-maybe you should visit once if you already didnt. It is fun and people get dressed in old german clothes with the short pants, feathers by the hat,...
I collect stamps, but i also like to go out for a walk,i like to travel a lot,i like beach, movies,go out to the casino,or eat something good, meet new people,i also write books,...stuf like that, not so interesting as you guys

Re: What else you collect, beside toy soldiers

Sounds interesting taking care of horses. I don't know much about horses but I imagine it takes work and vet care to keep them. I have enough trouble keeping the cat in line.:D

I use to fish often but sold my boat and I don't do that or other outdoor activities other then cut the grass. I also collect old wwl and wwll postcards and railroad and trolley post cards.

I always had hobbies like 1/35 scale models of armor and airplanes. I built a model RR years ago but gave up on collecting trains. I enjoy my Toy Soldier magazines and history books. John

Right, those are the Lipizzaner, aren't they, used by the Spanish Riding School in Vienna? Beautiful horses, originally bred and trained for specific manoeuvers in combat (eg, leaps intended to let the horse intercept a musket ball intended for the rider).

A Malamut, btw, is a breed of dog, kind of like a husky, if I'm not mistaken. Sptfrnd, do you breed them as well?

Prost!

Well they are name Lippizaner (we call them Lipicanci) because they are original from Slovenian town Lipica(there they have they name from). But because that time Lipica was under Austro Hungary empire so the austrians wannt to say that this are their horses.Well anyway,i am sure they maybe start this line and everything but in this parts it was always a Slovenian people,we have our own language,culture,...than Austrians but slovenian always live there and this town Lipica is still slovenian town today,...so i do not really know who the real owner is but one thing it is for sure.Lipica is in Slovenia,Lipicanci(horses) are also in Slovenia stables, people go watch to look the shows,we own this brand,....but i am sure that Austrians also have their horses in Vienna or i do not where they also call them Lipizaner,...which came from the same town from the same stable,...it is kind of dificult to explain. But all people who love horses can look at them in town Lipica

Re: What else you collect, beside toy soldiers

I have started collecting authentic militaria that relates to the subject matter of the toy soldiers I collect. I originally did so as a means of enhancing the presentation of my toy soldier collection, but now I have become fascinated with the military memorabelia in its own right. I collect antique rifles, swords, bayonets, tunics, hats, caps, belts and belt buckles, insignia, from regiments that interest me, or historical events which have caught my attention. My rather eclectic collection of militaria goes from a Katana forged in the 1600's to the type of cap and leather, sheepskin lined pants my Uncle Joe wore while a member of the crew of the B17 "Rikki Tikki Tavi." I especially love tunics an hats. I have an 1848 Gordon Highlander other ranks tunic, an 1879 Gordon Highlander Lieutenants tunic, a model 1895 U.S. Army Officer's tunic, the Gordon Highlanders mess jacket made for Lt. Col. (then major) A.H. Leith of the Gordon Highlanders in 1904, a 1939 RAF Pilot Officer's Tunic with the distinguished flying cross medal ribbon and a 1948 Black Watch Captain's mess jacket. Among my favorite hats are an 1847 Shako from the "Philadelphia Rangers", Company F of the Second Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers during the U.S.-Mexican War (some of the first troops to enter the fortress of Chapultapec), a pre-civil war 79th New York Militia (Bannockburn Highlanders) Glengarry and Belt Buckle, a St. Louis Militia Kepi from either the Civil War or subsequent Indian Wars, and a model 1872 Army Officer's dress kepi. Among my favorite bladed weapons are the above referenced Katana, a model 1828 Gordon Highland Officers Basket Hilted Broadsword, and an Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders Pipers dirk which entered service in 1899. I'll post a few photos of the above items displayed with my toy soldier collection.
