What interest in First Legion doing Market Garden range ? (1 Viewer)

Neil, there were Brits in the Bulge mate. I think FL would make a very good job of Arnhem, I couldn't buy them myself because of the size diff with my others, but I'm sure they'd be good.

Rob

We both know there were Brits at the Bulge mate but does not mean were see them :(

I am not certain, MG will appeal to Matt. Let's not forget that battle is very SS heavy and Matt is cautious in touching that topic. I think all the power to him for that.

If I may venture a guess, it might not be something as obvious as BoB or MG, but rather more obscure (for Military Modellers) like Crete, Norway or Monte Cassino.

I thought Matt was talking more about the marching bands than SS fighting soldiers ^&confuse

I think you are correct I can't remember Matt saying anything about Combat Units of the Waffen SS . I think he said they will be done when they are part of a Battle being covered . Although everyone has done Waffen SS units I think it would provide First Legion an opportunity to shine with their Painting of the many different SS Camo Patterns in use at this stage of the war . But Matt has made it clear there will be no SA or marching SS figures of anykind , which IMO has made him and FL some enemies in the process ..as well as several friends .. Regards Gebhard

There are plenty of other companies making SS marching and band figures without making a lot of enemies.. If FL doesn't want to make those kind of figures, it's really their choice. I don't see why FL not making them should upset people - but if it does it says more about those people than it says about FL.

Hi Terry ,
I think when Matt came on here and First Legion took the postion that they would not be making certain figures it ruffled a few feathers as they say . But like you say " it says more about those people than it says about FL" . Its just a bit strange to me that several guys who get all weak in the knees at those marching figures or "dear old Adolf" as they say have never had a kind word for First Legion ^&confuse . coincidence .... I'm sure it could be ..but who knows .... regards and Happy New Year Gebhard

Thank for clearing it up mate

My Pleasure .. Just for the record I would vote for a Market Garden range not least for all the excellent reasons you bring up . Could you imagine what First Legion could come up with ? How about a Glider landing with Para's running out .. That would be something . With British, Polish , Canadian, US and German forces there is something for everyone . Cheers Gebhard

Have to disagree BOB is just US V Jerrys battle but Market Garden cover British, Polish , Canadian, US and German forces + you have a air drop , river crossing .

Good point. Well taken.....Never thought of it in that way.

And including much of the late war armour for both sides. Consider the AFVs that were at the battle and the bridges leading up to it. Lots of British armour and Porsche KT.

Terry, that might be exactly the reason why I think MG would maybe not be the best battle: compared to competitors, FL issues AFV's rather slowly. Arguably, in the last three years, he has only made four AFV's. And although I believe each of them is worth every penny, in a sinking economy, collectors will need to allocate budgets. I therefore think, Matt's emphasis on individual figures and vignettes is correct.
To avoid a misunderstanding: I am certain there will be very many AFV's to come, but I believe that at this point in time picking a tank heavy WWII battle would probably not be wise.

And, as I may point out, none of his AFV's has sold out. Which I think supports my argument.

On the SS, it is correct that Matt has said he would produce SS units if they are an integral part of a battle. The question though is whether he "needs" to pick a battle that is SS focused when there are so many more out there. Particularly, as Matt's competitors have covered all the big battles on the Western Front in so much detail. And at a time that Matt is selling through distributors in the USA whose inventories are filled with Western Front product and who continue to produce AFV's for these battles every month. You see how limited Sharon's stock in WWII FL figures is. And none (other than George) of the distributors to my knowledge has had the courage to stock AFV's.

Having said all of that, I can see the temptation from a wargamer perspective to do a Flame of War in 1/30. {eek3}

And if someone can do it, in my opinion it would be First Legion.

To be fair Market Garden was not a big tank battle and was more house to house fighting bit like Stalingrad witch First Legion are already doing so can't see why there be a problem with it

If FL pursues further World War II series I would prefer it if they chose a campaign/battle area that was not already covered in detail by other maufacturers. For example - I collect K & C's Market Garden range. Even if FL did go for a MG range I would be reluctant to acquire the figures as they would be incompatable with my existing collection.

It will be interesting to see if FL produces an "enemy" for its Afrika Korps range. Could they go for 8th Army or the US Army in Tunisia? Tunisia would certainly provide a variety of figure choices in addition to the US Army - German, UK and US paras, not too mention the French. As for armour - Shermans for the Allies and for the Germans perhaps Tiger tanks!

Thing is K&C has covered most battles and still making new 8th Army stuff so it does not leave much left for FL to do , but the end of the day it will be down to them what they make . For me kc have not covered Market Garden very well no real direction

Well said , K&C have at least touched on many many WWII Battles and If FL were only interested in covering the ones K&C haven't they wouldn't be around long . That being said , I don't think First Legion look at anything K&C have done for insperation whether its a Battle they have covered or the way they have covered it . I'm sure any Battle from the western front or the non Eastern Front I should say First Legion choose to do will be a huge hit with many collectors who love that theater of operation because of what FL bring to the table .

I know I'm in the minority when it comes to WWII as for me I prefer Eastern front subjects , but Market Garden does appeal to me and I would be very interested to see what FL would do with this line . Lets face it most collectors love the big German Heavy Tanks and when FL get to em I think they will be a HUGE money maker for FL as long as they can keep cost down . Regards Gebhard
