This is a discussion point and one that has me thinking 'What is a limited edition?' War Park release 100 of each figure and K & C Hermann Graf’s Bf.109 ‘Gustav, 300 are being released.

What would you class as a limited edition?

Something, in my opinion, is a limited edition when the amounts made are significantly less than production for that company’s other models. I’d classify the K & C airplane as a limited edition because their production for other products is higher than the amounts made for the 109. However, if WP’s normal production for each and every one of its models is 100, I wouldn’t consider one of their models a limited edition. Alternatively, though you can say that production of a WP model is limited because only 100 are being made.

Can see your point of view, but what are the amounts K & C make, do they manufacture more than 300 of everything?

I believe they do but I’m sure the actual amounts are confidential.

Hello Pieper,
To make matters a bit more complex, certain companies, like Thomas Gunn, do not necessarily label a run as limited, but will only make a finite amount of figures. For example the T.G. Rising Sun (RS) or the Romans (ROM) seem to make a somewhat small sample and sell out fast.

Their planes are can produced in very small runs (like only 4 or 5 each).
See this months (March) War Bird release for example.

In addition to Limited Editions you will see some manufacturers use "Exclusive Editions" like the JN049X figure set in the K&C Japanese series that can only be obtained from K&C itself. (Note some dealers will get this set for you at a cost)

Of course there are always "Special Editions" that are by design, limited.

IN any case, if you see something that you like, I wouldn't wait to long to get it.
If you hesitate the next time you see it will be at a much higher price, possibly on eBay.

"Limited Editions"...Definition:..A term used by manufacturers to stimulate and kick start sales and thus create panic buying.:wink2:....The actual number of items produced can vary.... and can be irrevalent if it's something you don't want anyway.......My advise is that If you REALLY like it buy it....if you don't like it.... pass on it..........That is my method in the decision process as wether or not to make a purchase.

I think everything most everything made these days is pretty much a limited edition. I don't think there are 1000 pcs of anything made anymore and tank prices, for instance, reflect that. It's why we don't see SL sets from K & C anymore, because everything is SL.

As for as what I would define as a LE, that would vary across manufacturers.

I'm sure Andy can speak for himself -- if he so chooses -- but I think it's hard to draw conclusions about everything now being a limited edition if we don't have know the actual production numbers.

Even without actual production numbers, I'm only echoing what Andy himself said before, at least in reference to AFV's, when addressing the question about why no more SL's?
