Hello all,
The show is just a few very short weeks away. Since it is the "big" event of the year, I am surprised how quiet on this thread has been lately. So, in the spirit of generating excitement for this show I thought I would ask "what is it that tops your list this year?" Is it the newest of the new from Company X? Is it the last missing soldier of a collection that has taken a lifetime to accrue? Is it unknown but you'll know it when you see it? Is it just being with so many others who "get it?"
This will be my second Chicago show, and as of yet, I don't have a list. I think what I am most looking forward to is putting faces to all the names and nicknames I encounter on this forum. So kind folks, what is bringing you to the show?
See you soon,
All the Best,
Ericka

When it absolutely, positively has to look real...

Well its my first show and I have a relatively low budget, so I don't have a list either.

Ericka,

Nothing specific for me. Always looking for old K & C. Those arte getting to find though. I do want to pick up some Civil War and not just K & C. Mostly, just want to see old and make some new friends. Look forward to seeing you there.

Well, since I'm mostly a plastics collector, the Brazso set would be fairly high on my list, the beheaded Crusader, maybe some metal Alamo, maybe the Replicants set, silver or copper Conte Spartans.

I was jotting down my list yesterday afternoon on the train back from work in Chicago.. I tend to concentrate on plastics..but who knows.....

1. Parts and figures for my Marx Rev War playset
2. Barzso stuff
3. Parts and figures for my Marx 60mm Robin Hood playset
4. Knights in general... I'm interested in looking at Del Prado.. from photos they seem to have some nice figures.
5.Other?

Ken - I've also been surprised at the relative quite on the boards regarding the Chicago Show! Hopefully - this isn't a bad sign...

Jim

Nothing special for me . . . I am looking forward to seeing friends, and maybe making arrangements for the various manufacturers to attend the Symposium in March, 2009.

I have no specific list except some Jenkins and Britain's F/I war or redcoats. I enjoy visiting with members of the forum and dealers. I always get more then I intend to. Also, I will get a Beef and sausage sandwich with Fubar .:) Looking forward to the show. Leadmen

I am mostly looking forward to socializing a bit, and lots of exciting new things to have a look at I hope. I don't have a big list, but will probably add a few more K&C Crimea guys and hoping to find some of the Museum figures recently released by Britains. The Friday evening event should be fun and hoping to be around for Ken's Saturday AM demonstration too.

Two things:

Figarti's Shock and Awe (What ever it might be) and Britians new WWII line. Okay, maybe at least a peek at it.

Carlos

Some Little Legion (Zulu War), Timpo Plastic, King Country Tanks, what ever catches my interest and some plastic sets for the nephews.

Oh, yeah, and maybe some Timpo Knights are on my list as well...

I usually find something I wasn't even planning on, too. That's part of the fun at a show!

Counting down the days.

Jim

I'm probably going to be on the lookout for anyone selling an Honour Bound Gold Edition vehicle or Honour Bound Jagpanther . . . maybe with the economic downturn somebody might be looking to cash one out of their collection . . . if so, the museum will be getting an addition.

Yo Louis, put me down for a Britains Centurion Tank, on your shopping list lol.
Bernard.

Centurions are very hard to find and when you do they are pricey. I think it is the one Britains item that was never copied or reproduced. FOV or Figarti should make one

meet the forum members and have a great time and looking for new and old
models .
;)

Now if anyone has marx miniature Charge of the Light Brigade set or some Tamaiya Afrika Korp and 8th Army on their shopping lis they are in luck. I just happen to know someone who is selling those items.

Gentle Friends,

My shopping list, in no particular order, includes browsing the following:

1. Beau Geste and Marlborough Delhi Durbar items.
2. Monarch Regalia Samurai figures.
3. Sets by William Hocker.
4. Medallion Miniatures Connoisseur Medieval Knights.
5. Any other items that I simply cannot resist.

Clearly, I will have to make choices among the items listed above as my budget cannot possibly allow me to purchase from the entire list. However, my list will serve as a guide to help me behave in a somewhat focused fashion. Unfortunately, I must include item #5 above, which always gets me into trouble! :D

In addition to the search for toy soldier treasures, I significantly look forward to visiting with friends, renewing relationships with favored dealers, and discovering what new items will be introduced.

I hope to soon see all of you in Chicago!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

I started my list at mid-summer. In fact I started it early enough that I already bought two major items. First - I am an unrepentant "GI freak". There are many fine areas of toy soldiers and mlitary collecting, but my money basically goes to US subjects, or items to be used in WW2 scenes.

My list included/includes;
K&C M10 from the Battle of the Bulge series - I sold some stuff on eBay and bought one from Shannon's gang. It is now in pieces in the work shop for repainting into "summer" colors. This is a very nice piece and I may have to get another to leave in "winter" colors.

Wm Britains M8 armored car - of course this thing retired when I finally decided to buy one, but another forum member had it for auction on eBay so I was able to pick it up for under MSRPversus waiting for OTSN

Build-a-rama - I need at least one of the new camouflage net sets, some new roadway pieces and one or two other scenic items.

Treefrog Treasures forum pin

More TSSD WW2 US and German plastic figures for conversions, plus at least one more set of TSSD Civil War cavalry

Conte plastic GIs at reasonable prices, also for conversions. I'm hoping to hear that Conte will be producing the BOSS sets in plastic or resin, but I'm not holding my breath.

A reproduction of the old MPC "Duck" for my ringhand figures. These have been newly cast by Matt at Hobby Bunker.

possibly one of the plastic 1/32nd Diamler armored cars

I was hoping for the FoV 2 1/2-ton 6X6 to be available by the show, but that outfit has pushed them back again!

I may pick up the ONTC doughboys and US light tank sets. I don't have any WW1 in my collection yet.

I'll be watching for the US gun crew sets by 21C - but I haven't heard that they are out as seperate items (there are some 155 guns that include them)

The main draws are to see the gang. Last year was my first time and it was a major treat to meet Andy and Gordon Nielson, the team from Figarti, Shannon and Peter from Treefrog, Nick from TSSD, Richard Conte and Joe Baker as well as a few of the guys on the forum. I hope to renew acquiantances this year, do a little buying, and attend the events from Figarti and K&C.

I'm also interested to see what my wife finds over at IKEA (and for one of their shrimp and egg sandwiches) as well as doing a little tourist time with the wife before the show. I am slo hoping to get to M&M Models (for armor) and to Des Plaines Hobbies (for trains) while in the Chicago area. Lastly - I want another Portillo's hot dog (or two, or three...)

We leave in a week so I am excited and nervous.

Gary B.
