Shannon...Peter...any moderator...

what is the "ignore list" under the "My Account" tab and how does it work...

does this prevent people from posting on a thread you started...

or just prevent you from seeing their posts...

is there anyway you can block someone from posting on a thread you started?

Lets just say...you are tired of someone making critical remarks to your posts...is there any recourse to blocking them...

Hi Mike,

As I understand the "Ignore Function," it prevents you from seeing any post on any thread that has been placed there by an individual you have indicated you wish to ignore. It does not prevent the person from posting on a thread you started or posting a response to one of your posts. Others will be able to see the "ignored" post, but it will not be visible to you. This function is especially handy when particular individuals, determined by you, frequently post items you find irritating, challenging, attacking, baiting, etc., and you no longer wish to be bothered by such items.

To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible for a forum member to actually "lock out" specific individuals from any thread you start, or to prevent individuals from posting a reaction to something you say. You can only render the poster and the post(s) invisible to yourself.

If my understanding of this function is incorrect or incomplete, I am certain another moderator will post a correction.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

The function is only kind of handy, that is, one would expect that an ignore feature might hide posts by the poster flagged to ignore, but they still show in the lists. As it is, it's not really that useful, I find. I find it just as effective just to skip posts whose authors might tend to indicate that it might be a waste of time to read them.

Prost!
Brad

I was wondering how that worked. I'm supposedly on somebody's ignore list. I'd think that anyone really needing to be "ignored" would be banned from the forum or a least disciplined by the moderators.

The ignore function is used all the time, for instance the other day I said to my better half ' How good would three Typhoons look on an airfield dio' ? And she totally ignored me!:wink2:

Tell me I'm wrong - if I am - but one can only START a thread on the Forum. It doesn't BELONG to you - as the site actually belongs to the Treefrog organisation.

Is that correct?

Anyone is then free to post responses to what is posted - subject to the usual libel laws and rules of the forum. So if someone wants to ignore your posts - for whatever reason - then they can either just pass them by - or block sight of them for themselves - if they want to?

Is that correct - 'cos I don't mind what anyone says to me - if I don't like it - I will just "Walk on by". johnnybach

Hi Johnnybach,

You are essentially correct that no thread actually belongs to the person initiating the thread. Within existing laws and within the rules of the forum, any forum member who is not on moderated status is allowed to post messages within the thread.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat
