Hi Guys,

To try and keep up with some of the King and Country folks out there I thought I should go ahead and generate some discussion from the Britains fans hiding out there. In order to do this I thought I would go ahead and ask the question what is your favorite set from Britains not just WWII. This can be from any period of the companies history. Plastic or Lead.

I will go ahead and say that I have several favorites, of course the Durbar series is number one for me because of all of the units and the elephants and everything that I consider great about the Raj. But I also really love the old lancers I have and I am really happy with my Hollowcast 9th Lancers Mounted Band and my 9th and 12th Royal Lancers limited editon set.

So lets here from you guys and gals out there and maybe generate some more discussion about the sets we have or wish we had.

Dave

my favourite hollowcast set is 2062 seafourth highlanders charging with mounted officer, and from the newer stuff The premier series horse drawn G.S
Wagon or Kilted Blackwatch.

I accidentally erased Britians Web Site from my favorites and now I can't find it. Could someone post it for me. I want to look more in depth at their new stuff to see if I am interested in it. From what I remember it didn't have me too excited. Firebat

I,d have to say that the north gate was my favorite set with the add ons also of the 3 piece french and 3 piece brithish sets. I also liked the scottland forever set with capture of the standard of the 45 line. I can,t wait to see the new napoleonics and I hope that the sculpts and painting are of improved quality becuase some of the napoleonics like the russains and some of the personality figures were lacking in the sculpts and painting.

Hi Guys,

Here is the web address for Britains: www.wbritaincollectorsclub.com

I also like the Napoleonics. I wish they would produce their square set for Waterloo in a regular issue not just for the club so I could take some time to get them.

In the newer sets I like the WWl series, guns, troops and medical units. I also like my old sets of hollowcast Mounties with figure sideways in saddle. I like my old state coach with King George and 8 horses in 54mm. Probably my best piece. Misc. sets of lancers, arabs mounted and some earlier new metal marching highlanders and Royal Marine band. On their matte figures I like Wellington with cloak and Blucher. Leadmen

Hi Alex,

You are welcome!

To Leadmen,

The Mounty sitting sideways in the saddle was also done as several different types of troopers to include the Hussars and I think the 9th Lancers I have been trying to get my hands on one of those sets for a while I would also love to get the Dismounted Hussars that are standing at attention with their mounts. I really like reading this thread because of the varried themes mentioned so far, much more interesting than the old WWII discussion.

Gentle Friends,

I have frequently spent hours browsing through my copy of Opie's The Great Book of Britains only to conclude that I cannot possibly decide on a favorite set. However, after looking at all the Britains I own, I find my attention almost always being drawn back to the Britains Rorke's Drift Diorama. I think the Rorke's Drift Diorama with Hospital Diorama Add-on and all the related 24th Foot figures must be the favorite of the Britains I own.

Well,...there are those great Britains American Civil War sets. And, then, there are those wonderful Alamo figures. Nope! I'll stick with Rorke's Drift as my favorite...but only by a small margin! ;)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I like the Rorkes Drift stuff myself. But being a WWII nut, I guess I'll have to vote for their Kettenrad.

I like the Hussar set with standing horses. My friend has them. Might order some castings from Soldier-Pac when I finish ones I am working on now. I get London Bridge castings also. Soldier Pac has free shiping on orders of forty pounds. I finished West Indie regt. and still working on foot Egyptians, Sudan and early India infantry. John

Hey Dave, great forum question!! I always like to read about other people's favorite sets and so I hope more people respond. My favorite set is the one I have yet to obtain and that is their battle of Concord diorama. It is very hard to find. As a rev war collector that set captures a seminal moment in the war and I find it beautifully done.

Mark,

I agree that the Concord Battle Diorama is a great set. I kick myself everytime I think I could have purchased that set when it was new, but I opted for some American Civil War sets instead. The diorama became available during the Civil War stage of my collecting. Oh, well. I have some great Civil War sets and I love them as well.

Thanks, Pat. Now I know that I am not the only one who is kicking himself over not getting that set when it was readily available. ;) I got into collecting in Jan 2005 and was still a novice at this hobby when I saw the set on numerous websites. Back then I didn't know just how "limited edition" this stuff was. I am not as fortunate as you though, as my budget won't allow for me to have a "back up" plan like you have with the Civil War items. But I must say that the hunt for that set is quite thrilling and adds a tremendous amount of excitement to the hobby for me. I am determined to find it and if I happen to find 2 of them, I'll let you know.

I remember the day that we received our last shipment of the Concord Diorama. RC2 was clearing them out - and I think we had about 30 on hand - a whole wall filled with them ...

Ah, those were the days

Can anyone post a picture of the battle of Concord diorama? Would love to see it.:)

Fred

Hi Mark,

I'm glad you liked the idea of this thread. Its really a lot of fun seeing what folks really enjoy in their collections.
As for the Concorde display it is a very hot item and will probably run you some coin on the secondary market. If I see one I'll let you know.

My favorite set is probably a 1950's era set of mounted Belgian Chasseurs. I usuually prefer the traditional figures but I love the new WW1 matte figures. Right now they may be my favorite sets.

I purchased the Concord diorama and I love it but I have yet to make it into a a "good" diorama because all it is is the diorama with a few extra sets added on. Now that you guys have reminded me of it I may work on it some more. I will think about selling it to one of you but I doubt it because now I have a flare of insperation for it and hopefully will finish it.

Mitch

My favorite Britain set that I own is from the Delhi Durbar set. One of the lancers with the Polish style Capzka or is it Czapka? Either way I have one and that era of production seems to be the best. The WWI stuff from that era is also great. I also wait with great expectation the new Napoleonics....Sigh....drooooll.....ponk! Does anyone have any pictures of these?PPPPretttyy pppleaseee..
