What is Your King&Country Collecting Priority...Retired or New Releases ??? (1 Viewer)

Three hours ago I was firmly committed to pretty much only new releases and then a magician walked me past the K&C Crimean display case, and well, long story short, aren't those retired items just the coolest!

How naughty of a trained professional to take advantage of you like that Jack, he must have known you had a weakness and bang, he's on you like a tramp on a bag of chips. Welcome to the happy addiction that is K&C:smile2:{bravo}}

Looks like you may be in line for the draw then Jack!{eek3} Seriously, you've given the Indians a whupping this time, and coming on the back of what we did to them in the summer they must be wondering whats the point of the game at all:wink2:

Rob,
First it is '' Like a seagull on a chip '' mate . Second, the point with India cricket is money. I jest, we have no hope playing them in India. S.T is great to watch on his day .( I can't spell his name ).

Over here its also like a 'tramp on a chip' , other variants include 'Fat lass' and a rather more offensive version that features a country ravaged by famine, but I won't stoop to repeat that here mate:wink2: Sachin is superb when he's on form, but last summer and now down under he has little chance to shine I'm afraid, the power of good bowling!

Apologies to PA for drifting this thread, so will now steer it back.

The one thing that would totally derail my current plans is if the US Landing craft gets retired this month, I've not got this yet and I really don't want to miss it, however if it goes its going to blow a hole in my diorama plans, so am hoping for another months grace with that one.

I dread that sinking feeling of pushing back buying that newly retired set,only to find it vanquished a very short time later.... {sm2}

I know it will inevitably differ depending on the product, but when a piece is retired how long generally is it still readily available?

I suppose my collecting is similar to a lot of chaps on this forum who have been collecting K&C for quite a while (since 1999 for me)....

I collect about 8 ranges, 5 or 6 of which are 'active'.

I plan to do more dioramas this year. I recently posted pics of a large RAF diorama, including the stages of making it. Next up is a WW1 airfield, a WW1 slit trench scene, then maybe an AK diorama that can double for a Crusader dio......

ACTIVE RANGES:
RAF - 50% there and plan to get more, maybe not all of them, but the ones I need for my diorama
Bulge (mainly Americans) - will add new sets that stand out for me (latest being the GI chef) and the odd retired set. I like to display over the winter and then make room for other ranges in summer as I only have space in cabinets for half my collection
Crimea - few sets left to go, plan to complete 100%! My favourite range and comparatively inexpensive now if UK based, vs. later pricing!
AK - love the range but cherry pick my favourites, all started with the Tunisien Tiger and about a dozen sets since then. Easier to do dioramas for!
WW1 - early fighting Germans and Brits plus the new warbirds. Hope the warbirds range expands, especially ground crew....
WW2 - have some great early Normandy American sets / village pieces from 1999, some early Russians and T34 and have added all the Tiger tanks, Berlin sets from 2005(?), landing craft and a few others. I'm very tempted by the upcoming Russian sets if they materialize.

INACTIVE RANGES
Early Naps (approx. first 20 French sets in 2003 plus farmyard, walls, etc.) - happy with the sets I have, no plan to expand, although never say never
Latest Arnhem - about 8 sets and happy with, can't keep adding to as prefer other ranges. Some great figures / camo though
Crusaders - about 20 early sets (mixed) and realised either I had to stick with this hugev range and sacrifice other ranges or diversify! Love the early sets though and plan to keep. Just got a few dessert wall pieces and scenic pieces to do a diorama, hopefully later this year!

MISCELLANEOUS
I dabble in xmas sets, Iwo Jima, Eighth Army and even tried a LOJ Roman recently (very tempting). Must focus!

I generally keep one eye on the new releases and one eye on the retired pieces. It probably works out about 50/50. I just can't bring myself to pay over list price for a discontinued set on e bay so if it's been discontinued, I missed the boat.

Sorry to ramble on but I find other peoples' comments very interesting and hope this is of interest to some of you too.

Thanks now,

Some a week or two. others several or more months, Kind of hit and miss based on how many collectors pounce on the retired item,fearing losing out or getting it from the secondary market. !

I go after the SOHK series when they retire a piece. There is to much to buy for the series and I would to miss a piece that is retiring and my funds are dried up. SOHK is more of a side collection for my girls to have one day, to do as they please with. Bulk of my funding goes to the Sudan series on the market and trying to track down sets I missed out on years ago from other makers/lines...Happy collecting..

Thanks - so really a bit of 'go hard or go home"!

Hi Jameson - I enjoyed your 'rambling'! I found your thoughts on what you were getting quite interesting. I wish I had a few of the sets you have!
