Great to see everybodies pre 2006 favorite set - love to know what you fellow collectors think is the worse pre 2006 WW2 set.

my money is on 17585 USM8 armoured car, produced in 2005, looks so dead.
Nothing compared to the new 2006 model.

best regards
andrew

I'm not sure, I'm trying to think of the "worst".

I passed on their "DDay" paratroopers set firing a machinegun, even when it went on reduced price sale. The US .30 cal MG was the size of a 20mm cannon and was really terrible.

The Britains' Sherman tanks were pretty underwhelming, but I still bought an M4A1 and M4A1 76mm. These tanks needed a little more research, a crisper molding and some stowage or other stuff to create interest. Further, Britains scaled them larger than 21C/FoV but smaller than K&C. If they had been 1/32nd scale the 76mm vehicle would have been good to add to the FoV/21C display.

I really don't like the 3 man German paratrooper set from a few years back. The promotional pictures looked great but the actual painting was terrible.
It was this that sent me to collecting K&C though now i'm heading back to get the new FJ's which look awesome.

I really feel WB missed a great opportunity with those Sherman tanks. The molds were great, but no detailing or battle worn look at all. I have the M4A1 hedgecutter, which I detailed myself, so it looks like it just drove through a hedgerow. It would have been nice to have a drivers hatch that actually opened with a figure. Finally the tank, Commanders on all their Shermans were horrible, because they stuck out to high from the hatch. Talk about getting invited to be shot! Needless to say, I display the tank without the commander. I actually put a few K&C tank riders on the back. A little imagination, and those tanks can be turned into a nice display piece, which thay are not out of the box.

Gentlemen I respect each and every one of your opinions but lets not start duplicating what's has been done through out the forum. What you made consider made not be consider by others and let's leave it at that......The Lt.

Hi Guys,

I tend not to like threads like this for the simple fact that its an opinion game. There have been many sets from many companies I have passed on over the years that I felt werent up to the standard they should be. However that was my opinion and may not be yours. I agree with the LT here and think enough is enough, there is plenty of grousing and grumbleing on other threads that we dont need one in the Britains Forum.

All the best

Dave

Gentle Friends,

Let me add my voice to the Lt.'s and Dave's. Anytime discussions of "poor figures" occur, you run the risk of offending a fellow collector's tastes and preferences. In my opinion, we should enjoy the hobby to the fullest degree possible without being unduly critical of the preferences of others.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Or, we could just say that every company goes through bad spells. Certainly true for Britains, Lionel, etc., etc.,

Joe and Dave I respect your approach truly I do so forgive me but I must list the Knights of the Round Table as the worst thing pre 2006 Britains did. Thank`fully Richard and Ken are leading the turnaround and hopefully there will be a dealer in Cape Town soon.

Damian

Damian,
What did you hate so much about Knights of the Round Table? I thought it was ok b/c I like the subject matter and it was unique.

That really was an example of the situation I described. I will say it was unique though.

I agree -- we should spend more time raving about what we enjoy and treasure -- rather than which pieces come in second or third, etc.

I agree- I thought it was ok- I used to have the "Knights at Tournament" set but unfortunately, it had to go on sale. I always felt that Knight of the RT would have went well with it.

Well I suppose it fell between chairs for me. It was more sort of fantasy than toy soldier style to me and I thought the sculpting was not very crisp.
Anyway that is in the past now. Britains is back on track and it looks like I will be able to source it locally. I am eagerly awaiting the Zulu war stuff

For me the loss of the glossy premier line was a dissapointment,
But I agree their is not too much point dwelling on the downside
when their is so much good stuff to focus on.
