What percent? (1 Viewer)

Every time I receive a new addition to my collection......be it K&C or John Jenkins..... Britain's or now Thomas Gunn....they come out of the box......its like Christmas 3 times a month around here .........

I agree with this theory and very little of what I have is in boxes. If it is, I'm probably selling it or selling something to make room for it.

I also agree with John (njja) about permanence. Let's not forget that you can't take it with you.

Well said! At present, I have 100% DISPLAYED. Since I have the space I want to enjoy the collection for as long as I can.

Hang Tough,
Marc

I keep 100% of my collection in the original box, undisplayed. I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and they just love to get their hands on shiny little things.

I'm in a similar situaion. I've got a 5 and 3 year old that can be very destructive so for the time being I only display about 1% of my collection on a very high shelf! I do rotate them every few months usually based on the season. I also need to get a "proper" display case but currently my wife has too many other projects on the go and my display case is low on the priority list. In that regard wife outranks Cyber Field Marshall.

I'm currently trying to get a room in our house (that I designated as the "hobby/museum" room when we built) all cleared out to display my collection. I should have it ready in the next few months... so until then, most of my collection is still in boxes with only a few out for display. Such a pity this is, so this should be sufficient motivation for me to get my room ready as soon as possible.

Even if I did have enough room to display my entire collection I would not do it. I love my whole collection, but there is no way you can look two places at once. I prefer to set up some of them or a particular theme (i.e. Battle of the Bulge, Fall of Berlin etc) and concentrate on it/them until I want to change it up. It is the same reason I do not have 12 TV’s in the entertainment room, there are many shows I enjoy, but you can literally only watch one at a time.

Lucky you don't live here. It would be so nice to be able to watch one show at a time and not have the channel switched every time there is a commercial :D

hahahahahahahahaha! Good point! We need UN peacekeepers in our place when the TV battle ensues, I usually retreat.

Everything I have is on display in my home office. Feel free to check my forum album :)

I'd say about 40% of my collection is on display. I have one approx. 12 x 12 room with my soldiers in it. It also houses three desks and the family's three computers! So it's not alot of room. One large glass display case , five shelves, about seven feet tall. It's a goregous case. The balance is in case cases about 30 x 24 inches long , with three shelves , and about 8 inches thick. I have three of those.

I do hate to keep buying stuff that I cannot display, it does effect my purchase decisions.

I rotate stuff about once a quarter. It is tough to find the time to do that. Locating the old boxes , finding that one set you are lookking for in storage , dusting and wiping clean the shelves. It is great fun however. It is like looking at new stuff again after it's been in storage for awhile.

I have been seriously considering thining out my collection , mostly keep stuff I truly adore. Sometimes I am caught up in the .."oh it's going to be limited , I better get one.." scenario.

I need to get back to my roots, collecting the lines that I truly enjoy and dumping off the other stuff.

My two cents...

I also keep about 98% of my collection in the original boxes as they are to heavy for my glassed cabinets........I rotate some every now and then...
Regards,
Canucks:)
