What the Boston Marathon Is (1 Viewer)

Thanks for posting that link Brad; Paul Dorell has an interesting opinion, it's amazing his body can function without a brain telling it what to do......

The reader responses were very illuminating and far more interesting than the actual report
Mitch

I hadn't read the comments as generally when I read an article where readers comment, they're usually all over the map, like Dorell's.

Sorry, I found virtually nothing in most of those comments to be either illuminating or interesting.

When something like this happens, it brings out people who feel the need to enlighten us with their political and social views.

Tell it to someone who gives a ****, because I don't.

I thought it an interesting read, thanks for posting Brad. Totally inappropriate time for anyone to mention IRA fund raising in my view. (even though I deplored it)People have died, others are maimed for life and one of the dead is a child. This person could not even bring himself to mention what has happened or offer any sympathy or condolences, if I say what I really think of these comments I'll be banned.

George That's your right. I suppose as an Englishman who has grown up with IRA and other terrorist groups frequently bombing the mainland and having lost family members and school friends in these I am interested in what is said on all sides to understand why this happens. Its also becoming a part of our lives to have to expect and live through such events. Its how we deal with it and how we respond to it that defines us from those who actually perpetrate these acts upon us

Not really sure what or who Rob is going on about??

Mitch,

What I'm ' going on about' as you so kindly put it is the comments of Mr Dorell who used the occasion to not offer his condolences to the dead and injured, nor for his thoughts for recovery to the wounded but to launch an inappropriately timed rant about the IRA which is really nothing to do with what has just happened in Boston.

Understood regarding your thoughts on the IRA, not sure why that person had to throw that out there though, not sure what this event has to do with any of that.

Just someone who is trying to get a rise out of people, guess he did his job.

An excellent article on the Boston marathon and it's special meaning. Having grown up in Natick . . . a small town along the runner's route . . . I can testify that it's an extroadinary event celebrating a historricl event. (I had forebears at Concord and Lexington.) Everyone is entitled to their own view and to express it, but (IMHO) those who have no appreciation of what Patriot's Day and included events stands for, (the rising of brave people against an uncaring oppressor) must miss a lot in life. Anyway, that's the view of the octogenerian.

Rob said it better than I did Mitch, the guy's timing is awful is all.

I think when things like this happen its rather natural for people who have experienced similar to revert back to what they have seen or know. When I watched these events I thought of a few like the bombing of the Brit bands and the deaths of troops and horses, the bombings at Canary wharf in London and the Bombs on the Spanish rail a few years back.

I suppose, its human nature to try and discuss, as we are doing, events that are outside of our comprehension in terms of what it takes to do such acts
