What's your K&C horror story?? (1 Viewer)

No real physical disaster stories as nothing from KC has ever gotten broken. I do have plenty of 'dumb decision' stories in relation to selling old KC. Put briefly, I had an extensive collection of early WS, DD, Yanks, and RA. All are long gone at what would be bargain prices in today's market, but the proceeds were used to further evolve my collection, so I don't feel too bad about selling/trading them in what is now the distant past. -- Al

This is my horror story. I still get angry when I rember it.

Having orderd the Hawker Hurricane in Hong Kong. I revieved a message that a parcel had arrived in my postbox. I had a postbox because I am not at home at the time the regular mailman delivers his parcels. I thought it handy, After work I picked up the parcels and thats all. No problem untill one day I was could not empty my postbox. The parcel was kindly send to the postoffice where I could obtain it.
Arriving the next day at the postoffice they where not able to locate my parcel. And now comes the horror. I could see my parcel sitting on top of the parcels to be transported out. I talked and talked but there was no sense in the women attending the postoffice. My parcel was not on the in pile. I was so angry that I decided to leave before something ill became of it. The next day I tried again, but in vain. My parcel was gone.

A few days later I received a mail form Hong Kong stating that the had my parcel returned asked me what to do whit it. I reluctantly asked them to forward it to me again. Had to pay the extra costs of shipping so that made me mad again, not at K&C but of the bureaucracy displayed by the postofficeworker.

So untill then dubble shipping cost and no Hawker Hurricane.

I made shure I was at home, following the track and trace of Hong Kong Post, and got the parcel in right order. Untill I opend the box. To my horror a wing was broken of. I was getting mad at the time. Still fighting to get money from the Postoffice.

One thing is fore shure, the Hawker Hurrica made it around the world.

18th-century Hessian officers with facial hair, and those serving on foot sculpted wearing riding boots. Talk about horror stories--it freezes my blood.

Absolutely agree on the Hessian officer! I thought no one else really noticed.

My latest Horror was to look at the May dispatches and first be elated to see the two new mounted figures for the World War 1 desert theater. There was my man Lawrence sitting on his camel....I was in heaven..........until I glanced down at the price. $225 dollars? I thought there must be a type O......but alas no. At least Lawrence was minus the silly smirk he has on the club figure, but none the less, too expensive.

It was mere months ago that Napoleon on camel was released at 99.00. I will go with the Lawrence that comes with a foot figure as well for under a hundred.

I think that the list price in the US is $125, not $225. -- Al

Ah yes, thank you. I type O'd. It is the 26.00 raise in camel mounted figure is mere months that got me.

Almost--I think I was the only one who said anything about it in the threads on those figures.

Frontline has made the same mistake with their new SYW Prussians, although I have heard that they may correct the officer figures in future releases.

Prost!

I know this isn't K&C, but while we are on the subject of horror stories:

My mother picked up a Britains' lunging French infantryman while dusting, and dropped him. His musket went all the way into the soft floor, and the bayonet broke off. Kind of funny, but I still have not found a replacement.

I was moving a North Gate piece, when it caught on a flag-bearer, which then knocked over a couple other figures. The gate broke off, and there are a number of chips.

After finishing setting up a carriage and escort, the entire thing tipped over, each horse going down one by one. I still have to re attach a lantern, some arms, and do many touchups.

Lastly- I had bought a $200 Guards at the Bar. While setting it up, one piece fell. I literally screamed. No damage whatsoever, luckily, only had to slightly bend a sword.

My horror story involves poor shipping practices by the carrier. A box containing $350.00 worth of K&C was delivered to the wrong house number. After filing a claim and the FEDEX driver scouring the neighborhood the box was luckily handed over to me after 2 days by the neighbor that received it. When I asked the driver why he delivered it to the wrong address his answer was........."Oh it was dark outside" ^&confuse {eek3}

I have a strange one for you .....

I have, on occasion, set up a small AWI diorama at a local school when they were having “History Weeks”; other events or special occasions. Due to OSHA regulations (safety regulations in the US) and security policies in the school system, all boxes and packages must come through a Shipping / Receiving room and sent from or brought to the dock by school personal. (Mostly the Janitor)

After a successful day, I packed up and the 6 boxes and they were sent to S/R. I used the large boxes that you get when you purchase packages of copy paper. After waiting 30 min for the boxes to arrive, they appeared and I loaded them into my car, drove home, unloaded and had dinner.

Later that evening I started to put away the soldiers and diorama material and to my HORROR, {eek3} one of the boxes actually contained packages of printer PAPER!

I called the school, but of course they were closed. I never slept a second that night. The next morning I was at the school at the crack of dawn.

After explaining the situation we conducted a search and FINALLY found my box in the supplies storage closet.

All was okay except my nerves. I now have very distinct markings on ALL my boxes.

Well this doesn't compare to Louis' story but tonight my son was looking at the infantry soldier in DD 34 (the other 3 are paras) and he dropped him. Wrecked beyond repair. Did I remain cool, calm and collected, after all it's not retired? NO!!, I went ballistic. After I calmed down, I went to ebay and bought a new one and a figure from 8th Army while I was at it. Now, I'm cool, calm and collected.

Wow - I'd like to see a picture of how bad that figure turned out after the drop. I have two of him and unless he went more than 8 feet to concrete, he seems pretty rugged. I've dropped him a few times onto carpet.

My son and a friend were playing in the house and went into my room to play during a party we were having. I found them in there and told them they could not be in there without an adult present. The next day I noticed that my line of K&C BR039 all had their bayonets bent from a hit. The boys had light sabers in the room. We all know how well K&C bayonets stand up. My son and I had a little talk. He likes the collection as much as I do, so he now asks before going into the room and he does a good job keeping others out.

Luckily I've never had a K&C Horror story:smile2: My Horror story involved this;

I don't know if my wife used mythical powers or drugs in my drink, but she convinced me to allow the little varmints into the office/display room for a while. As I was on the floor unpacking boxes I turned and to my Horror saw the furry little bleeder leap up wrap one of her paws round the barrel and bring it heading to the floor at a rate of knots. Somehow I was able to conjure up the fielding reflexes I had in my Cricketing youth some thirty years ago, hurl myself across the room and catch the falling medium Tank . As a result said tank suffered no serious damage and said Cat still has a home, less one office she is not allowed to enter.

On the K&C front I want to give a shout out to the guys at K&C UK, in well over one hundred orders with them I've never had a single damaged item delivered or lost anything in transit . I feel especially fortunate when I read of some of the Horror stories on this forum and how some people get things in bits{eek3} So a big thanks to Dispatch Dave and the guys at K&C UK:salute::

Scott, whenever Mike hears it's me on the phone first thing he says ' oh bloody hell ! ' ^&grin As you say a true gent and always goes out of his way to help.

Jack , they are indeed evil little bleeders but you can't help loving them, the one on the left swans around here like she's Queen of the world and we are her ' staff' . If my picture has fallen of this thread it was the Winter Panther from Honour Bound that nearly got broken.

Are you a fan of puns? I am tempted to try something with the idea of the ultimate cat fight involving a panther.
