How many of you make a plan and actually stick to it?.Or do you just go along and go with your gut instinct?.Here I am less than two weeks to go before another big day in London, and I just don't know what to get. When it comes to figures I just can't decide,Big Red 1,German Normandy,German Bulge, etc.I was just wondering if any of you have that real discipline where you decide on what to get and do not budge when you see it all laid out in front of you.If you do,I just don't know how you do it?!

I like to say I have 'discipline' when I buy things, but really... I don't. I'm going to a show in Gettysburg, and I keep telling myself that I'm going to stop buying things for a while and save up some money, but that never happens. I can't say no to a good price whether it be on eBay or the classifieds, and when I go to my K & C dealer and see all the awesome pieces K & C is coming out with.... I just can't say no hahaha. And then.. when I go to the show's and see all the stuff there, I know I will splurge. This hobby is just too addicting!!!

Gut instinct for me. It's odd you ask the question because Joe Roy (who attended the Symposium and whom I drove into NY) asked the same question about the show the following day. I sort of had an idea that I might want to buy the Seehund but I wasn't sure. I know I wanted to buy one of the personality figures but when I saw it, I said, oh, what the heck and wound up buying the sub and about five of the other figures that go with it. I also have an order with George for the roadster and the recovery vehicle!

Just let the senses flow over you :)

Exactly. My friend Simon jokes that by 7.15am (doors open 7am)I've spent all my cash, and its funny because its true!.There truly is so much stuff K&C produce that I could spend it all a dozen times.I guess the upside of this quandry is that I know WHATEVER I buy its going to be something I really want, that is the joy of this hobby and of K&C,purely and simply they make so much good stuff,I guess its why they are No1:cool::cool:

So anyone able to stick to their list?:)

Hi Rob,

You pose a most interesting question. My response is I do a bit of both. Before a show, I contact my dealers and ask them to reserve certain figures/sets for me and to bring them to the show. Once I am present at the show, I pick up the items and pay for them. The dealers with whom I work know I will keep my word and complete the purchases I have pledged to make from them.

However, I never commit all my funds to the items I have asked dealers to reserve for me. I retain some funds with which to purchase figures that "catch my fancy" and/or figures that I did not expect to discover.

By having dealers reserve items I especially want, while at the same time, retaining funds for "gut level" and impulse buying, I feel I combine the best of both worlds.

My approach demonstrates some level of discipline, doesn't it? :D

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat,that is great discipline:D.A lot more than I have!.I also reserve stuff for the show, but I must confess Mike and Tony fall about laughing when I ask them to reserve stuff, because they know that on the day I can be...how shall I put this Pat...fickle!;).But if I don't buy what I've reserved I always buy something else from them instead.

I think your policy is very wise Pat,part plan part impulse buy, maybe I'll try this in two weeks time. All the best

When I go to a show, and I,m speaking of OTSN, I bring X number of dollars and commit about half to things I know ahead of time that I will get.
Funny it takes the first few hours to get me to spend my first dollar, like I,m afraid to part with it. After that first dollar leaves the wallet it is like money doesn,t matter until I run completely out. Many years I have been to OTSN and by the actual show on Sunday I did not even have the admission fee.

I go to a show knowing how much the maximum amount is that I can spend, but with nothing else set in my mind. There are often incredible retired items available at the shows, and that is what I buy. You can always get the new stuff on line or at a shop, but the classic stuff tends to come out of the woodwork at shows. At the last show I picked up the Arnhem Daimler armored car (which I passed along to a friend in exchange for a new item), a WS09 Tank Rider set (which I gave to Howard as a momento of his trek to NY for the Symposium) and an amazing Heco desert armored car. I also picked up a lead on 4 other Heco aircraft, 2 of which I ended up purchasing. So my advice would be to budget the money you bring to a show for retired stuff you want but might not otherwise have an opportunity to get.

My policy at shows - is to have NO PLAN !

I go and look at dealers tables to see if there are any hard to find / retired items that interest me. Make those purchases first - then look at the regular stock / released items being displayed.

My thought is you can always buy newly released items online from your favorite retailer - but, you cannot always find retired items marked at good prices.

I dont have the problem. There's almost no hobby shows in this part of the globe. :( But I really do symphatise with you ... London show .. three times a year. Geee

Here's a tip though ... just buy the NAPs, K&C will be retiring them and you will be able to make a huge killing on e-bay. Then, you can get all the WWII you wanted :D :D :D

Best wishes
