Where are the Britains collectors? (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the welcome chaps. I will post up some pics of my collection once I get my camera back from my friend.

Thanks Roan,

Anyone have a list of newer Britains? 1980 to today?

There’s a list of sets made before 1966 here.

This is a work in progress(I try to add a few photos on a daily basis) with no claims of it being definitive-corrections, suggestions are always welcome!

ROAN (Geoff Duin?)

That's an excellent list, I hadn't noticed that link before on your site. Keep up the good work. Maybe you can get a link on the WBritains site? You should with all that work you have put into it.

I heard that Norman Joplin's book on Britains post-1977 is due out sometime this year which is apparently supposed to list all the sets up to 2004 I think.

Do you have anymore info on this book ???

I thought his next book was supposed to cover the Britains civilian series but only in plastic.

Hugh,

Appreciate the compliment!

I didn’t know about the Joplin book-there really needs to be a book that covers that period.

Opie’s The Great Book of Britains does list the sets by name and number that were made by the firm from 1962 to 1993.

I'd also like to see a "coffee table sized" book in the same format as above about Wm. Hocker’s toy soldiers.

Sorry to change the subject a bit, but who else is on the edge of their seats waiting to see what else is going to be in the hopefully soon to be released 2008 catalog? We've seen glimpses of some fantastic looking figures (Iron Brigade, Napoleonic medical vignette, matte Black Watch figures, the Petticoats line, and of course the much anticipated Zulu ranges), but that will only be a portion of the new offerings. I will be particularly excited to see the Napoleonic, WWI, and VC lines expanded further and have already decided to get everything in the matte Zulu range that we've see so far. What are the rest of you Britains fans most excited about, hoping for, predicting, planning to purchase, and so on?

I plan to get all the new FIW, selected items from the 3 "Coats" series, the Napoleonic medic set, selected Zulu figures and some VC, AWI, and ACW items. I just joined the WB Club last week and was told the WB Catalogs will ship in 2 weeks. The catalogs this year will be quarterly, so there will not be so many new items listed per issue. I think the 2nd catalog will be out in April.

Hi All!
You are correct about the catalogs for this year...they will be quarterly, so the next one will be wrapped up in April. I am working on new sculpts now and Richard and I will meet when he returns fron the UK and Germany to firm things up for the rest of the line-up.
This also means that we can respond to the requests a little better than we were able to when we were only doing two catalogs per year. This means that requests are considered in our discussions...and in some cases worked in to our line lists when we can.
Thanks for the support...Ken

I guess I had heard mention of quarterly catalogs in previous posts, but didn't know if those would be 4 full catalogs or 2 plus 2 supplements or something like that. Out of curiosity, did you purchase all of the club figures? I opted for the 93rd piper figure hoping to see more releases from the regiment in future. I am going to try to keep up with the Napoleonics now (am currently scrambling to get old stuff) and the VC and Regiments series for sure, in addition to the aforementioned matte Zulu items. That is about what the budget allows at this point but it covers a lot of my favorite stuff...so very exciting indeed!

Thanks for the comments, Ken. You just beat me to the reply. Here are some requests right now. VC Crimea...more light brigade, heavy brigade, and yes, you guessed it, more 93rd Highlanders at Balaclava. Then down the road would love to see some coverage of 2nd Afghan war with 92nd Gordons led by George White, and Seaforths in tartan trews. I would think these seldom covered subjects would look absolutely brilliant in your best in the business (IMO) sculpting style.

I chose the 1st Foot Guards figure from the FIW since that is the range I am concentrating on. I liked the look of the 93rd piper and am sorry I missed the 93rd Highlander from last year. Does anyone know if 43108C is still available anywhere?

My wish list: (In addition to my favorite FIW and Redcoats/Bluecoats)

1. Anglo-Sudan/Egyptian wars (Highlanders, Camel Corps)

2. Northwest Frontier

3. Naval series to add to the 'Coats' ranges

4. Boxer Rebellion

5. WWII Pacific--especially the Japanese and British/Commonwealth

6. WWI in Africa and Middle East ((Arab Revolt and Lawrence)

7. Russo-Japanese War

Thank you Ken for asking and I look forward to whatever surprises you have for us in the coming year.

Randy

Hopefully Ken with all the request along with Randy's you'll be able to at least get one or two figures included in the Zulu War Series:):):):):):). Hope a VC series is planned for the period......The Lt.

Yes, indeed, and in addition to all of the personalities present at Rorke's Drift, we'd love to see more buildings and mealie bag barricades on so forth.

Ken and Richard, The top of my wish list, besides Union Zouaves in mat finish for ACW, would be a focus on the fight for Plancenoit like you're doing with Hougoumont. This would add a new variety of Napoleonics to the Waterloo series including Prussian Line Infantry and Landwehr troops as well as French Line and Guard Infantry. The Young Guard was destroyed trying to hold this village. Scenics could include the walled churchyard which changed hands a number of times before finally being taken by the Prussians.

Everything you're doing at Britains now is simply Great! I'm trying to collect all your mat ACW and Napoleonics, and will do the same with the upcoming Zulu line. After that, I sort of cherry pick items from your other series, both mat and gloss. Thanks, and keep up the good work.:)
