Where Eagles Dare (2 Viewers)

Vell - I for vun chust luvved der Cherman accent off Von Hapen off der SS/Gestapo. (better known as Derren NesbitTT below). Vot a soooper performance zat vos eh, mein herres?^&cool

I chust luff to heer zee false Cherman accents of actors - who try ferry hart to put on zee foney accents - und Derren vos chust wunderbar in zis classic.:wink2:

Don't you think that the idea of all the jerries getting mown down - and all the heroes getting just flesh wounds - owes more to the old black and white cowboy films of the early fifties - where the baddies wore black hats ( a bit like the SS) whilst the goodies wore the white hats?

Maybe Burton should have had a pearl handled six-shooter!:D johnnybach

Maybe we ought to start a thread about our favourite Nazi character in films???? There would be plenty more to choose from.

Old Clint Eastwood's hat must have been a bright white.He was a German killing machine in this movie.

Enjoyable movie although I agree about the shooting scenes where all the Germans are getting mowed down but the hero's only get flesh wounds! The other thing I wince about is the kubel wagens getting trashed although the movie makers probably or should I say hopefully used movie special affects or kubel replicas when they destroyed them. I also thought the German Helicopter was interesting and using it in the movie. I think the Germans developed a helicopter during the war although I don't know much about it or if they used them on the front line. Anyone have any info on them?

Tom
Tom, found a pic of one but no info, so at least one existed, anyhow as we all should know any Hollywood movie is an exercise in believe suspension....:wink2:{sm4}

A really good action film, but before you complain about German accents, try listening to Hollywood's take on the Australian drawl! {sm4}{sm4}

I am still trying to figure out how the English can get rid of their accents for American films and TV...As for Australians, they usually make them into Southerners...Michael

To our ears, the Hollywood Australian accent sounds more like South African. I have given a number of presentations at American Universities and I always open with "you are lucky I am Australian...we are the only people in the world without an accent'. Gets a polite laugh every time!

Jack, you have been watching to much Hogan's Heroes! ^&grin

So I guess the film overall still remains in favor of most,even with the der ziz und zats in the dialogue and Clint wiping out German Infantry like a man on an ant pile with a large shovel. One of those movies I will break out next year and watch again!

Zee helicopter vot you haf shown Vayne - ist un FL-282 "Kolibri" - designed and built by a German engineer, Anton Flettner. He built it in the early 1940's - after trying his hand at autogyros during the 1930's. Early versions used a 160horse-powered Simens-Halske SH14A radial engine - which drove intermeshing, contra-rotating blades - and could carry two persons.

It was successfully operated from boats - and had a top speed of 93mph - and a ceiling of just over 10,000 feet.

Clint could undoubtedly have flown it with one hand - whilst doubtless machine-gunning the other half of the Wermacht - whereas Burton would have been dropping grenades out of the other door - and calling up Broadsword for a chat, through a mouthfull of grenade pins - to cover their escape.

Maybe I could be a script consultant for the re-make? I am also near fluent in Hollywood Cherman, mein freints :wink2::cool::cool: :D

Don't forget the female heroine squeezed in the hatch behind the front cockpit firing her MP40 and mowing down all the wermacht!^&grin

Tom

Zat ist un gut idea Tom - However, I was reserving the hatch for Lassie - who would be listening in to the other radio - and tapping out the co-ordinates for Danny Boy - (to Broadsword of course) as Ricky Burton was still busy with the grenades.

Darn me - if we don't have the basis for a re-make already here. "Escape from Der Eagles Nest!";) jb

No worries John, Lassie will work although you will lose a bit of firepower as i doubt the poor old girl will be able to fire a MP40 while chatting away on the radio! I also hope Ricky Burton remembers how many pins he has in his mouth as opposed to the actual grenades! {eek3}:rolleyes2:{sm4}

Mate, a re-make has to be on the cards but will the makers of Lassie allow her to be in it!!!!
